I bought a load of different floating plants in 2007 and they never reappeared in 2008 are they mostly annuals if not what can i buy this time in 2009 that will reappear in 2010 Cheers Steve

Most floating plants such as water hyacinth, water chestnut and water lettuce are tropical plants which will die off as soon as it gets cold. Either keep a few "cuttings" in a bucket out of the cold or buy new ones in May

Several years ago I tried to over winter some water lettuce in a bucket of water in the GH, frost free of course wasn't sucessful I could have just been unlucky though.

I keep a few in my tropical fish tanks just to over winter them.

Green kidney shaped leaves up to 5cm. Dies in Autumn but seeds itself for following spring. It's a native plant too. HTH
