Yes - me too - going to be hitting the crunchy nut when I go back to work on 5th Jan - no point doing it now, our house is full of chocolates, biscuits and cakes.

I don't weigh myself these days, I go by how loose my jeans are At the moment I would say I'm just a bit more cuddly than usual ;D Once the weather picks up a bit we can resume proper gardening duties, it will soon shift - you have the allotment to go at FA - perhaps we could all come and give you a hand x Tig

I know the tight jeans feeling - mine are feeling very tight today!! Hope that going back to work on Monday and eating at my regular times will help a little bit - must get back to the winter digging on the lotties once the decorating's done!

I've never owned a set of scales, I always new by the feel of my clothes, but since I stopped smoking everyone I know says I will lose it in the summer, with my bowling and gardening, but.I think drastic action is needed.

Actually, I just re-read my first post on this thread. I'm not going on a diet. In fact, I'm not even going to mention that word again. I hate the thought of being on a d***, and I never stick to it. Instead, I need to change my eating habits to move away from eating pork pies, cheese, crisps etc and onto healthy stuff and if I can also add some exercise to my weekly routine, I will almost certainly lose some weight. I knew by my clothes that I had put weight on, it just shocked the hell out of me to see how much. I've put on over 3 stone (which is more than my 5 year-old daughter weighs ) since I met Mrs FA 12 years ago so I reckon it's all her fault ;D !! Anyway, the New Year is going to see a change to my eating and drinking habits (I drink far too much beer as well) and a change to my exercise habits too (well, ok, I'm actually going to get some exercise !!!) and I'll keep you updated as to my progress. My first aim is to lose 5lbs (to get back under the nearest "whole" stone) and then we'll see how I go from there. This is not just being silly at Christmas, I really do need to lose about 2 stone. I can feel it in my clothes and I can feel it when I try to run anywhere. I'm so out of condition it's not funny (considering I used to play a lot of footie) and when I see mates I haven't seen for a while, they all say "bloody hell porky, you've bloated up" (or words to that effect) so it must be true. I really do have a determination and will to get going with it and I really want to get myself back into condition. Once the Christmas food and drink are gone, that is ;D FA x

We walk, nothing mad, just every night after tea, we walk to the top of the lane, round the corner, and back down to the house, we are probably out about 30 mins, better than nothing

If you park your car in say Tesco right at the very end of the park and not by the door, like most people , you give yourself a brisk walk you otherwise wouldnt do ;D Run up the stairs at the office; dont use the lift Just small changes can make a big difference when added up

I think you're right on the diets FA. I'm hopeless at sticking to anything like that. Exercise is the key, and since you are already have the main ingredient - a dog ;D - why not add an extra five minutes onto your normal route or stick an extra walk in now and again. I'm sure that there will be no objections from Fickle's corner. Otherwise how about biking to work in better weather? ;D

Oops FA but did you not start an allotment? That is a) good training and b) provides healthy food. How about Jeruzalem Artichokes. Yes the windy bit and such, but but but... Zero calories.
Good luck

Otherwise how about biking to work in better weather? ;D I have biked to work in the past and I enjoy it. Unfortunately, in the very near future, they're closing my office and moving my job 22 miles away (to Ipswich). I may be keen to lose weight but I'm not biking 22 miles to work in the mornings ;D FA x

Oh dear Lardy ;D Get that pooch out more (I do around 6 miles a day with Jazz ) and swap the beer for vodka ;D. It has much less calories and you can change mixers to give more variety ;D! Add a slice of lemon or lime as one of your 5 a day ;D. Nice and healthy!! S xx

I've been laid up with a horrible flu-type lurgie for several days and I'm only just feeling vaguely human again. However, it's not all bad news. I've been unable to eat very much since Tuesday as a) everything tasted funny and b) everything I ate made me feel sick so I've only managed a couple of bowls of soup in 3 days. I weighed myself this morning and I'm 10lbs lighter than I was when I started this thread on 27 Dec It's not the way I wanted to kick off the New Year or my attempts to take more exercise and lose some weight but hey, every cloud and all that. It's kick-started me and now I can start being more careful in what I eat and take some exercise when I feel better and hopefully it'll just be the start of a more healthy me ! FA x

Just resurrecting this thread. Sadly, I did lose a bit of weight at the start of the year but having just returned from my holiday in Devon, I weighed myself and I've put it all back on again (it's that damned clotted cream - why does it taste so good ? ) My problem is not that I can't lose weight, it's that I can't seem to keep my willpower going long enough to keep it off. I've decided that enough is enough and that I really need to shift some lard - walking up and down all the hills in N. Devon has really made me realise how unfit I am Anyway, I have been recommended the Weight Watchers points programme thingy but I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and if so, how you got on with it. A friend from work lost 4 stone on it (and has managed to keep it off too) so it sounds good but as with all these things, I like to get a mix of opinions before I take the plunge. Cheers FA x

Mrs Bill and I very successfully lost weight with this plan some time ago. Unfortunately we let things slip and put the weight back on. We are now starting again, using the online version. It is very good, but you do have to be fairly strict with yourself

I have been advised to lose weight and so far have lost around one stone since 4th May, with another 19 pounds to go before I hit my ideal weight of 15 stone. Problem is that I gained weight when I was ill so now am only back to where I was this time last year. All I am really doing is cutting out all snacks between meals, having a little less than usual at mealtimes and a maximum of one cake! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif Oh and no coffee as I only really like it with cream and no alcohol either! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif If it wasn't so blooming hot I might be persuaded to go out for bike rides again, as that certainly made a difference before, but in your case FA I would just go a bit further on the dog walks. When I had a dog I never weighed more than 14 stone! Now I am 16 stone 5 pounds (and falling slowly). I don't think I could stick to a Weightwatchers plan though as I am such a picky eater.

I used to go to Weightwatchers classes and it worked because I simply couldn't bear the trauma of paying my weekly fee only to get on the scales and find I'd put on weight! I am a lifetime member and have been back a few times (to start again as it were) but happily at the moment I seem to have reached a balance and have stayed much the same weight for several months (and I'm no longer overweight according to the BMI index so I'm happy).

I'm glad to hear the weight watchers works for some people. I'm holding that in reserve for the moment and just trying the "don't put so much lard/beer in your mouth porky" and "do a little bit of exercise fatso" method of weight loss.
Seems to be working at the moment as I lost 4lbs in a week. I'm not going silly but I am trying to stop all the crisps, chocolate, biscuits, cake, pies and general rubbish I eat on a regular basis. I've eaten lots of pasta, salads & fruit and I'm trying hard not to raid the cupboards every 5 minutes in the evenings.
Cheers FA x
