I think it could be that in this day of modern TV gardening a lot of those are not seen as chic and in vogue, very '50's and Grandpa stuff if anything. Leylandii and Ivy could reduce the value if left to their own devices and I think there have been court cases over them. I'd of thought that the list would be better served with plants like weeping willow too close to the house etc. And I wrote all that and then read the article ;D

I agree with the leylandii and I personally dislike pampas grass. And I guess people don't like things that cling to buildings because you can't see any damage to the brickwork underneath. I can't understand why a lot of the other plants are on the list though.

I must admit that I find it a bit ludicrous. I agree that anything that would damage brickwork or very large trees too near a house and possible damage to foundations should be carefully considered.
However, if I didn't like the Pampas grass, Geraniums and Co I would just dig them out and get rid of them, if it was the house that I wanted to buy.

Oo! I was prepared to take umbrage and reading the article hasn't changed my mind! I think it's all just silly! All of those plants are perfectly alright if planted in the right place and looked after properly and to make them into villains makes me so cross - it's the old fashion police again - telling everyone what are the 'right' plants for us to grow... On that list there are some plants I personally would never grow just because I don't like them, and never have but to make stoopid lists about how terrible they are is yet another example of us being told what to do! It doesn't 'arf make me mad...... ;D
