This tree has fasinated me for ages, it is in a neighbouring garden some distance away. As I was photographing even more Long Tail Tit piccies for the Wildlife in the Garden thread ;D it came into view so I thought I'd take a piccy and post it and ask if anyone knows what it is, it's huge.

It's wonderful isn't it, like a totem pole with all those faces squinting back at you! If only my garden were big enough for such beauties, you are so lucky OM

I wish my garden was big enough as well Tig - only trouble is that they are so slow growing that our great, great, great grandchildren might just get to see it!!

Thats one hell of a trunk OM, it almost looks as if the bark has been carved. The 2nd lot of notches look like eyes and the 3rd a mouth, very spooky looking.
I reckon the one near me must be a good 35 - 40 ft high and is absolutely full of cones, wouldn't want one on my head either Tig ;D The photo is what I see from my downstairs bathroom window, I'll try and get a closer look at it sometime if I'm over that neck of the village.
Have to say I don't recall seeing this sort of tree before. Wonder why they call them a Monkey Puzzle tree, will have to have a google ;D

It's what I always call a Monkey Puzzle Tree, and to be honest I don't particularly like them. I think they are a throw-back to the seventies!!! ;D

The bark is fabulous looking. I've seen the trees before but not with those cones on it.

A friend of mine down in our village cut her's down a couple of years ago it was a monster, she was fed up not being able to see out of the bedroom window ;D and she only had a very very small garden where it was growing about 7x7ft if that, and she lives on the main road. I never saw any cones on it all the years that I passed her house (20+yrs). Chucks ask if you can take a pic of their tree next time your passing that way, that's a real beauty.
