Sorry to hear that Karlslass.
It will sting a bit but if you dab some tea tree or lavender oil on it from time to time and it should soon clear up.

If you can get them (have a look on ebay or try Holland and Barrett although it might be more expensive) dab some tea tree oil and some lavender oil onto the cold sore with a cotton bud to prevent the virus spreading elsewhere on your fingertips.

Forgot to say, Tea tree has exceptional antibacterial/antiviral properties which will help prevent the spread and increase of the herpes virus and lavender will soothe the affected area and help it heal.

Hi KL
Hope the cold sore is getting better. I get them, but thankfully not too often. I always use Boots' cold sore lotion, as Zorvirex doesn't work for me, which is really good at drying them up. The most painful place I have had one was on the inside of my nose, and the only upside was that no-one could see it, but boy was it painful, so you have my sympathy.

Thanks so much, you have made me laugh out loud! Whiskey indeed The coldsore is much much better and although I still have a horrible scabby lip, the swelling has gone and I look normal (well normal for me at least!) I bought some tea tree oil today and will keep it in reserve just incase I get any nasties again. Although the doc said I can have a course of Zovirax tablets to keep at home just in case sounds like the thinks it might come back - which I am SOOOOOOOOOO not looking forward to ! Still look on the bright side - it might not ;D xx

It's the herpes virus KL which is the same thing as what causes glandular fever, it's the sort of thing you don't get rid of unfortunately. Having the pills means you can catch it early and hopefully it won't get bad.

So, KL, how is the biggest cold sore in the world?

Its gone ;D my nose still feels odd tho, its sort of tingly inside. The doctor said that the virus that causes cold sores travels through the nerves so I expect its still lingering about somewhere - once you get it, it never goes away does it Hope I never have one that bad again tho - it was awful.
