Anyone planning for hols this year, where, when and what type of holiday suites you.
After a long spell of not going anywhere I have started taking the family away in the summer. Last year was Torremolinos in the Costa Del Sol. This year in August we return to the same region but a bitty further down the road near Marbella.
We like doing the beach/pool thing with stuff thrown in for the kids to enjoy. One thing we plan this year is Fuengirola zoo with the kids.
We have went for the all inclusive package with no worries about the kids eating as they can get stuff all day, as long as they get something in them, theyre not great eaters at times.
Not sure about next year yet so may pick up some ideas from here, we have thought of Turkey or Bulgaria, but I quite like Spain.

Well, I've got 3 breaks planned so far. We've got a Weekend canal trip on the Grand Union/Oxford canals in March (are we MAD!!!). End of April I'm off to Portugal (Algarve) with my sister and some friends. Never been there before but the others have. Then in June OH, dog and I are off to sc with fishing lakes in Lancs (Forest of Bowland). Oh and me and Sis will be going to France at some point to see our other Sis!

Im only 5 mins from Dublin airport Anywhere hot will do for me. As it happens i was just there trying to get some dollars but the bureau was closed one of my daughters is off to new york on sat with the school for a few days

Can't see us getting away this year, we're having lots of work done indoors (walls knocked down, new brick firsplace, new flooring etc) so cash will be tight. It's also my daughters last year at primary school so she'll have lots going on and i can't afford to go away in the holidays/ Might see if we can get away camping for the odd weekend.

Cyprus is indeed smashing, one of my best holidays was there. Also a lovely place to go is Malta, small island and lovely people. I'll be spending most of my holidays as usual visiting either Carlow and my Daughter Jenny or Lancaster and my Daughter Ruth and their families. WE're all going to mainland spain Benalmedina (sp) for a big family holiday together, we've got 2 apartments and I'm so looking forward to just sharing our days with each other.

Have a holiday booked for the first week in June down in Cornwall, I love the place and go twice a year at least and have been lucky to have good weather ( for England). Enjoy going to the gardens like Heligan, Trebah, Eden Project, Trewithen as well as sitting on the beach in St Ives, worth the 470 mile drive.

The lake district is so beautiful FB, we often go when I'm over with Ruth and her family. Her husband comes from Cumbria and they live near the border so it's not far.

farmersboy, I have taken two of my daughters boyfriends down to St Ives with us and they both said "it's just like sitting on a beach in the south of France". I know you cannot guarantee the sunshine but it is a different climate than up here in the North East and such beautiful scenery, been going for fifteen years now and I still get excited when its time to go there

I love Cornwall, and often think that I could happily retire there, having spent many happy weeks there on holiday over the years. Having said that it's seven years now since we were last down that way. We used to stay in a self-catering bungalow situated alongside the dunes at Holywell Bay just south of Newquay, but despite it's close proximity to the latter it was very peaceful and virtually the antithesis of Newquay in fact. Then again I suppose with just two country style pubs, one general store and not much else in the way of entertainment for the younger generation it was never going to be anything other than quiet. I thought it was heaven! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif The bungalow we stayed in had direct access from the back garden onto the dunes so you could happily walk barefoot from the house to the beach and back without coming anywhere near a road or for that matter a paved footpath. Sadly the bungalow in question is no longer available for holiday lets but it's still a very nice area.

We travel in our motorhome, last yea we had 6 weeks traveling abroad the first time with van, we had to get Teddy his pets passport which I did worry about as I wasn't sure about the rabies jab! anyway everything was fine, we traveled through the tunnel into France then through Holland (I was bitten by a big Russian Terrier in Roermond) I had to take antibiotics and NO Alcohol for two week!! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif and we were traveling through the Moselle Valley!! staying at sites and M.H. stops called stalplatz which you can top up with water and empty facilities, we ten went through the Black Forest and along Lake Constance then the Loire Valley in France we traveled to our Sons holiday home near Montlucon and stayed outside his house for three days before returning vie Bologna avoiding Paris to Calais were we stayed for a few days to be near the Vet and get Teddy sorted before coming back through the Tunnel. This year we are doing the Moselle again but were only having four weeks as six weeks entailed too much driving. We intend to have a week in April probably Edinburgh or the Lakes. We do like this country but we find the roads so much quieter in France and Germany if you avoid motorways and you see more of the country that way. We used to fly before we got dogs to places like Yugoslavia Greece Portugal Turkey the Spanish islands Dominican Republic ! but I much prefer now to amble about staying where we fancy, we have to make the most of it as O.H. is now 71 and although I am 7 years younger he wont let me drive the motorhome he says I wouldn't be able to manage it i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif he,ll never know will he if he doesn't let me! but I'm not arguing Ill just sit back and be driven until the day that we downsize.

Oh Maggy how lovely that your doggy got his passport - I had to smile - thinking of him going thru customs with nothing to declare ;D
Having dogs is very tying; one of mine is 16 and difficult to know what to do - cant put him in kennels - he has bad eyesight too so has to be around familiar objects
I have to say I love the UK - there are so many beautiful places - Cornwall especially - and the Lakes and North Wales too ;D

Jenny, we had to put our dog into kennels for the first time back at new year and I cried when I dropped her off. (Sorry to go off the holiday theme but what to do with your pets is a real issue for owners who want to go on holiday). She is 13 and deaf and can only see to about 8 feet now. My mum and dad had always had her before they emigrated and then a friend had her but when she began to get up really early in the morning I couldn't ask my friend anymore. I looked at quite a lot of kennels and then found one about 2 miles away run by a dear old man and Jess came home with a real 'boing' in her step. When I went to pick her up she came out of the little bungalow that was the kennels and waited by the elderly man for him to put her lead on - it was so sweet to watch. I think she was very spoiled with treats and attention and we are leaving her there again when we go and visit mum and dad soon. Think I might be able to drop her off this time too without getting too upset!

Like FB, I've never been abroad either and have no wish to. I have been camping all over England, Wales and Scotland. It's all beautiful even in the rain. I even spent a long weekend camping in the snow in Devon. I especially love the Norfolk broads and go there every year.

We used to camp at The Bosons Nest down by the lighthouse at Lowestoft in the late 60s early 70s we were right on the sand dunes and the bairns used to play making sandcastles, we used to sit otside the tent watching them i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif it has changed now though the last time we went to have a look they were static vans there. And we occasionally had a static at Yarmouth which was luxary to us after being in a tent most years. I like Oulton Broad ( I think that was it) in fact we must have done just about everywhere there over the years! as most places we have seen or been just about the lot (have tent will travel). LOL
