I have seen Vine Weevil before and squashed them!! but to-day I went into the Greenhouse to tidy round a bit, I thought I would pull the sick looking leaves off a cyclamen, but when I tried to pull the whole top of the corm came up and underneath was all slimy and rotted and feeding on it and in the compost was what I thought were large maggots i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif I took them into the garden and tipped them on the soil thinking a good feed for the robin!!!!!! Later on I went onto my laptop and looked up garden pests I raced into the garden put my gloves on and the BL---dy things had gone!! Vine Weevil Larvae Loose in my garden it was getting dark and I was on hands and knees raking and squashing for over half an hour I hope I have got the little Beasties. I need to get some Pravo and water the plants in the conservatory as that cyclamen was in there not long ago! the question is Do I need to water the garden as well? will it work out there? I don't know why but I thought the Larvae would be brownish and these were white with googly eyes i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif just like the pic on that website.

They get everywhere don't they! I think ladygardener posted recently that one of her primulas in a container had no roots due to vine weevil grubs! They seem to be more of a problem in pots, perhaps because their movement is restricted to just what you have growing in them I treat most of mine with one dose of Provado in March and hope it does the trick until September .. but as you have released yours into the wild I doubt you would get good enough concentration of the product in the garden, maybe others have tried it though? They are the EVIL WEEVILs - good luck Maggy! x Tig

They probably got eaten by something Maggy! I dumped some out of my fuchsias on the drive last year thinking the robin would enjoy them and then watched red ants carrying them back to their nest!
