I have just bought some of these as I am trying to be a bit greener on a day to day basis. I cant stop using the car every day, I have to get to work and the public transport is non exsistent where I work. We do have those dim bulbs all over the house, we have insulated the loft, I compost a lot of stuff and we recycle loads but, I do a lot of washing and I must pump loads of chemical nasties out every day, with the clothes washing and dishwashing. Has anyone else tried them? While we are on the subject of the environment and washing can anyone recommend a reasonably priced shampoo and conditioner that is not full of chemicals? Rebecca and I wash our hair almost every day and thats also a lot of crap into the system. Some of the ones I have had a look at are very expensive especially considering I have a 15 year old who thinks nothing of using half a bottle of Alberto Balsam conditioner in one go i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif her hair is lovely, but we are skint!!

I hear that a dry towel in the dryer helps to dry things quicker. I think all shampoo is full of stuff, I use l'oreal elvive and its got loads in, but I like the stuff so..... my mum used to use a bottle of beer, used to drive dad mad, especially if it was his last. ;D

The balls I got are for the washing not drying - I dont use the dryer unless I absolutley have to. I dont like stuff thats been dried in a drier it feels thick! I have done a couple of loads this afternoon and they seem to be alright - the big test will be Karls work jeans. If they can clean them they can clean anything!

Look at the ingredients on the back of any bottle of shampoo, make up or deodorant and yu will be shocked My deodorant is virtually chemical free but is £4.99 This is a very sensitive part of the body, under the armpits - lymph nodes etc - so I dont want any chemicals seeping in

Yes Chuckles those are the exact ones - and I might point out that they are £2.35 at Aldi !!! The reviews arn't very good are they - I found them comparable to my usual detergent and they DID get Karls work jeans clean - so I'm quite pleased with them. Even more so now that I found out what a bargain they were ;D might call in and get some more in the wek if I have time As one reviewer mentions there is no smell and it is weird, but thats no big deal is it! Blimey Jenny you must be well loaded paying 4.99 for deodorant ! ahhhhh you live in Cheshire tho - so you are rich have you ever tried those crystal ones. I saw that lad on "Its not easy being green" use one. Mind you if he stinks, I wouldn't let it bother me (phwoar) and there's me old enough to b his mother ;D ;D ;D

Since my eco-thread I've changed more of what I use. I now use Jason deodorant which I buy for about £4 online, and face moisturiser by Earthbound which I think is £6. I vary my shampoos but avoid anything with parabens, CFCs and the like.
While I appreciate that it is more expensive in the long run, surely our earth is worth it? And it's so much better for your body and the environment if you aren't slapping chemicals all over yourself ;D

The thing I notice most since using the eco balls is that stuff I washed in "normal" washing powder and softner smells really chemically - and I'd always thought it smelt fresh before ! I am going to try the crystal deoderant and some of the shampoo when I can decide which one! My hair is coloured and dry so I have to be bit careful about shampoo and conditioner or it all starts breaking off - not good and that stuff aint cheap is it. I know what your saying about the planet and all Plocket, but times are tough and I really cant afford 15 quid for shampoo and conditioner. I cant understand why it is so much more expensive, surely it must be cheaper to produce - they dont have to buy thousands of chemicals for a start! I'm going to watch that grow your own drugs programme he is going to do a shampoo - might try that - even cheaper !! ;D

I fully understand about the price KL but if you shop around you really don't have to pay £15 for shampoo. I use an online shop called Naturesense.co.uk - I don't know if any of their shampoo would be suitable for you but the cheapest is £3.50 (it's a baby shampoo so nice and gentle). I didn't mean to get all agressive in my previous message by the way and I certainly didn't mean to dictate that people should all change to environmentally friendly and organic. Perhaps we should start a thread about making our own preparations

Hi Plocket - I didnt think you were aggresive at all - just putting your point across I am going to have a look for that site you mentioned, I keep having bad dreams about shampoo now!! God Im sure Im losing my marbles you know One of the girls in Tesco mentioned that lush do a pretty good range of shampo - but who can afford them prices on a regular basis! I have some hand cream from there and its the business, but it was so expensive I hardly use it - sort of defeats the object dont it! As for you FB - you cant kid me about Essex - I know they're all secretly loaded down there - just to tight fisted to have a spend up ;D ;D ;D ;D

And you're still there, hanging on to yours are you FB? Is it all stashed under your mattress? I wish NO, you should know that farm workers are one of,if not the, lowest paid in the country, and having done that all my life, and bringing up a family, and not robbed a bank, where do you think i got it all from. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif
