I don't think it is but it reminds me of Melissa officinalis.

thanks rosefriend. i have given the leaves a squish and it is vaguely lemony.but only very slightly smelly and its leaves look much thicker.but it would make sense as i seem to remember her having some sort of lemon balm in her garden at some point. thanks again. xx

This is a photo I've just been and taken of what I believe is my Lemon Balm and I've crushed a leaf and tbo didn't even get a hint of lemon making me wonder now if mine is LB. It's in a red pot to remind me....danger....don't plant in the garden it runs wild

Lemon balm smells very strongly of lemons Chuckles. I hate it! ;D I am sure I have something like your mystery plant in the garden. Is it Bugle (Ajuga reptans)? Bugle is a creeping pernnial like your example and has blue flowers. Does this ring any bells from last year?

Mines definately not Ajuga Spruance, I have that so am familiar with it. I can see why you thought that though, very similar looking. If you put RBJ's pics next to mine they are the same plant by the looks, top 2 are RBJ's. The plot thickens, do you think maybe they don't smell lemony at this time of year I'm sure mine usually does (goingcrazysmilie) We need to find someone else on GWD who has Lemon Balm me thinks [/quote]

Hmmm.... Well since I like Lemon Balm so much ( not), it now has zero representation in the garden but I am pretty sure that it has the smell year round, especially in the stems. It's more like those awful citronella insect repellent candles than lemon though.

It is lovely Missy but do not plant it in the garden - well unless you want a garden just full of it.

chuckles. i crushed the leaves of mine and practically shoved it up me nose !!! no hint of lemon. then i picked another leaf and did the same and it did smell lemony!! curiouser and curiouser
it does indeed look like you and i have the same plant!. it makes sense as i have a vague memory of my mum having a lemony smelling plant in her garden and telling me it spreads a lot! This little plant has popped up in a terracotta pot i rescued from her garden. im gonna leave it in the pot and see what happens.
thanks all. xxxx
