Could you please settle something for me? I have been trawling the Internet for guidance on what conditions are preferred by heucheras and some sites say they like shade and some say that they must have at least half a days sun!! Do they prefer sun....or shade? Also, one breeder says "always keep the soil moist" and the RHS says that they mustn't become waterlogged and prefer a well drained soil. HELP!!!!!!!! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif

I've not bought them often but they are starting to grow on me. mine are in a well drained border with shade during the afternoon, it can get confusing on times. oriental poppies are supposed to like sun, but i have Patties Plum in a shade border and it flowers OK for me, in full sun the colour just looked washed out

I wonder if it depends more on the drainage of your soil rather than exclusively how much sun they get. I've had a few through the years and had them in the bottom border which gets sun until lunchtime then goes into a bit of shade and they did'nt do well. My neighbour a few doors up who has man made soil, ie a bed which has all compost etc..... in it and she has the most fab burgundy leaved heuchera which thrives. It would get the sun all afternoon.
