I'm heading there on me hols this year - Ilfracombe/Woolacombe sort of area.
Anyone know anything about the area ? I've never been so suggestions of places to go & things to do, especially with 2 children (aged 6 & 4) would be appreciated.

Blimey it's years since I visited around there. We used to live in Newton Abbot, S. Devon so it wasn't too far for a day out! Think we went paddling at Saunton Sands, not much else there apart from ... sand and dunes, so it was a cheap day out Bet it has all changed now, I moved to Staffordshire in 1970!! x Tig

Yeah yeah been to Ilfracombe many years on the trot. I was in my early teens though.
The beach at Woolacombe is really nice but also really popular. The beach at Ilfracombe is quite small and stony but there's a big hill to climb up and a little harbour type thing.
Sea is clean so I spent practically every day in there with the friends I made... There was a little fair thing there too and boat trips. Can't really remember much else as I spent most of my time in the sea as previously stated ;D

There's loads of things there for kids. Big Sheep or something is one of them. No idea what it is as I don't have kids! Take 'em to Clovelly and give them, and yourselves, a ride back up the hill in a jeep. Saunton sands is lovely, there are sandhills there with Orchids and loads of other wildflowers. Croyde beach is lovely too but if the surf's up it may not be safe for kids because of the surfers! Google North Devon and you'll find loads of stuff. If the kids are up for it pay a visit to Marwood Hill, absolutely beautiful garden with a National Collection of Astilbe among other things, fish, moorhens, ducks etc. RHS Rosemoor is also a good day out. Hmm, I think I quite like North Devon It's brilliant when the weather's good

I lived in Woolacome for a bit. In fact I had my son in Barnstaple Hospital. Was too busy working, having babies and being in the surf culture to know what else there is to do though. If you're Floydian, Saunton Sands was used in The Wall and Momentary Lapse of Reason. Oh, I also got my VW van stuck in the carpark there once and had 12 hunky lifeguards get me out of trouble. Those were the days. ;D
