I know that Scarlet Emperor are pretty reliable NO, but don't know if that goes for growing them in a pot. The only beans I have tried in a pot where Hesta and they did quite well.
Having said that, if you tried Lady Di in a pot last year and they did well, Scarlet Emperor might be a fairly safe bet, as I grew both last year but in the ground, and both did well. I'm sure I've got some Scarlet Emperor seeds which I could spare you if you would like to try them that way. If you PM me your details and how many you would normally plant, I will send you some.
I hope that helps.

I am trying Runners in a large pot this year - have previously grown them in the veg plot. As we are now enjoying sub-tropical weather in Cheshire at the moment (May 11th) it is too late to sow the seeds - the Memsahib (my wife) only thought of trying pot growing them 3 days ago.
B&Q had a miserable frosted selection of seedlings this morning and I will wait until our local GS has them in stock (1-2 weeks they tell me) and buy whatever they have.
I will let you know what I find and how they grow in due course.

It's not too late bigolob, believe me.... I only sowed my beans at the beginning of the week and all my veg is in containers - everything..!!
I usually sow climbing runner/French beans and have had great harvests. This year I am doing my beloved Hestia dwarf runners (marvellous) and bush beans from which I find I get a marvellous return...
Buy some seeds, bung them in and enjoy - it will work, believe me...I have done it for years now and have a far shorter growing season that the UK!!
Let us know anyway..

Definitely not to late to sow, well I hope not, all the ones that I sowed 2 weeks ago have done nothing due to the weather, so I'm re sowing them all this weekend. It's says on the pack don't sow in waterlogged soil, well it wasn't when I sowed them i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif White Lady Runners are very good, & still form good beans even in dull weather, which seems like a good thing this year.
