everything seems to be in leaf about 2 weeks early this year....and that's despite a pretty long and cold winter. I usually go by the flowers on horse chestnut trees.....i always used to do guided tours of our nursery during the first 3 weeks in may and the chestnuts were always in magnificent flower then. However, i've just seen one where the flowers are just opening !!!!....although others are a little way behind. Anyone else noticed things being early ?

yes I agree Andy, maybe it's because it was such a cold winter,

Can't say that I have noticed - in fact lots of my stuff ( hardy fuchsias, cannas, dahlias ) seem to have been later in showing any new growth - especially the dieramas

Although we have had a good deal of snow this year.We have had a very dry mild March and April so far. I think thats what brought things on My clematis are all in bud and growing well this year and other things seem a lot better growth wise.

My big tulips are all over except for 2, not a sign of a daff either they've come and gone. I think this is earlier than last year but can't be sure. Everything in the garden is coming on great guns and my clematis pretty pink perfection is in bloom.

We had a hard (ish) winter - minus 15 was the lowest which isn't so much for here, but it was sooo long.
The last two, nearly three weeks in NW Germany have been an absolute dream - sun pure - and no rain at all butI don't know whether we have somehow missed out in a way this year. Everything seems to have come at once...forsythia's, cherry trees, apple, pear and other fruit trees, sloes, amelanchier, lilac, horse chestnut and and and ....
Everything looks absolutely marvellous and the smell in the air is wonderful but it also means that things are also going to be over all at once.

Funny isn't it. I was thinking that everything was later this year. My snowdrops lasted well into March and my February Gold Daffs (which rarely do much in Feb) were in flower well into April. My Queen of Night Tulips are only just fully out and I still have some Tulips which haven't coloured up. The Early Plum hedge was late flowering and the Primulas are still going real strong. Who knows?

It does seem to be all mixed up - some things are later and some are pretty much the same as last year. I kept a note of when the apple blossom appeared last year and it is spot on the same time this year.
