I'd say it could be a Millipede after looking at this site... organicgardensite.com/bugs-harmful/centipedes-millipedes/I think yours could possibly be the last picture on the right NO. I get a lot of the centipedes in my soil (pots mostly) - third pic on the left. It looks as though they are on the border of goodies/baddies. RF

I would say millipede too, but it's a different colour and "circumference" to the ones I've seen. Maybe it's a juvenile. And yes, I would rate centipedes on the border of good guy/bad guy. As far as I know they generally avoid people and their sting (bite?) is not as painful/potentially fatal as a scorpion, but I don't think it would be a good idea to test that. Besides, some people can have some very painful (sometimes fatal) reaction to bites/stings that would be otherwise harmless/mildly painful/uncomfortable to most people,

They are not at all like a millipede (Surprised they are not listed under "harmful" in that article!). They are much more like a centipede, but much longer and thinner. They do not whizz about quite like a centipede, but are quite nippy at disappearing if uncovered. Nothing like as slow as a millipede. I'm fairly sure theyare not a juvenile as the one in the pic is about maximum size (3 inches at most), and I have lots of much smaller ones too i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif

Well done Tig. I've learned something new today. I can't really say I've ever seen it around here though.

I think people sometimes mistake them for wireworms - which are totally different and more destructive I'm glad to have been of some assistance x Tig
