I planted these 10 days ago...... my question is...how big do they have to be before I prick them out? They are in a trough. I plan to plant some of them on in another trough.

Since you already have them in a trough MRH I would leave them until they are around two inches (5cm) high.

This is the first time that I have grown lettuce...I didn't realise that they germinated so quickly, and outdoors too.

What you can also do with lettuce is to just pick a few leaves from each plant leaving the plants to grow on. That way you can continue to crop the same plant until it runs to seed.

I have sown a salad bowel mix lettuce in a trough outside and im leaving mine to grow in there MRH. I usualy pick them when they are a fair size and they keep me going all summer. When they are coming to an end i will sow some more seeds.

All my salad stuff ( first sowing ) is now ready to pick - trouble is.....it's not salad weather Guess I shouldn't have been so impatient - and lulled into a false sense of security by the couple of good weeks of "summer" weather we had ;D
