Not OM..... ;D For the past few days we have all seen a mole scurrying about the garden (on the surface I mean). I saw it yesterday by the kids climbing frame and OH and I went to have a look - it had a worm and appeared to be in perfect health but it rushed away along the grass. I've never seen a mole do that before so I mentioned it to my mum who said she'd seen one by the GH too Then smallest and her friend saw it by the goat shed later yesterday afternoon...is this normal? It's rare to even see a mole...... I wondered if it was too dry for it but it has been seen under the trees in the recently weeded ground where it's much softer and still not gone underground.....s'odd.....

I've only ever once seen one above ground, so it does sound rather odd, 4P

There's lots of molehills still - Pumpkin sat and watched one being formed on the patio right in front of her last weekend Very comical! No more sightings of the moles though...

You are not alone 4P, yesterday OH saw one in the street, it crossed the road and was running up and down next doors stone wall, OH tried to pick it up and put it on the soil other side of the wall, he had 3 attempts but it bit him 3 times ;D by the time I was aware of what was happening and had got the camera it had gone up next doors drive and through the fence in to thier garden. I did take a couple of pics of it burrowing but you can't see the mole, it burrowed really quickly but I did see the soil moving. Why didn't I use the video

I was talking to OH about this thread and he said that Moles come up on the surface to find a mate? and they can be seen more often then, he didn't know what time the mating season was though Chuckles I hope you OH has had his Tetanus jabs? they can be very nasty when cornered and have you seen their teeth

Interesting isn't it when something unusual like this happens Knowing my OH Carolann my bet to the tetanus would be, no We've also just been talking about the mole too and I suggested we ought to tell our neighbour they may start to see mole hills in his lawn/garden. They have two terriers and OH said the fence has been demolished where the mole went through the fence, oh dear ;D moley may be no more. Apparantly the life span is only up tp 3 years I've had a scout about and found this...... Moles are sometimes seen above ground. They come to the surface to collect nesting material and to look for food when the soil is dry. Young moles come to the surface to look for new homes when they leave their mother's burrow. Moles emerge mainly at nightI got it from here www.ypte.org.uk/animal/mole/143
