I grew mine in the mini greenhouse last year MRH (It made quite good use of it after all the plants had been taken out and planted out). I put them in the biggest spare pots I could find, took the top shelf out, tied some string from the shelf they were standing on to the roof bar so they had something to grow up and fed and watered them. We got quite a few cucumbers. Good luck with yours.

mmmmm my mini GH's are full, the one with no cover on has lettuce and spring onions on one shelf, dahlias that are waiting to be planted on another and on the bottom are bricks and poppies In the big one there are lots of seeds growing and pricked out marigold plants........ I did try and put the dahlias on the ground but they were getting eaten might have to have a re-arrange in them again

Don't think they need to go out yet if you haven't room yet MRH. Mine are still in the lobby and 1 is on the kitchen window sill.

I have left them on the garden table in the pots that they came in but they are quite small pots for the plant I think....a guy at her work bought them in and was selling them for 75p each. She thought that as I like cues she would get me a couple

Mine are still in their tiny fibre pots. I am trying the mini cucumbers this year. Must get them into bigger pots at least this w/e.

when you grew them in the mini GH was the cover on?

Yes, but it was the mini greenhouse with the ripped off door panel.

I have taken the cover off of the smaller one as even with the door tied back when the sun hit it, it would steam up and any plant leaves that were touching it would go manky

That sounds like a good idea - my cucumbers did get mildew as the summer went on last year. Don't know how well they do outside.

I will put them on the shelf of the one without a cover and see....surely they would grow outside if planted in the garden?

I think some prefer a GH and some will grow outside - it depends what sort they are. If it is a good summer maybe they won't mind either. Someone else might know more about the indoor/outdoor thing.

Don't leave them outside yet Missy, they don't do cool! Night time temperatures are not warm enough for them where I am, doubt you are much different?

They are climbers and without support or something to grab hold of they will eventually droop. How big are the pots you are going to put them in?
They are a challenge if you intend putting them out in a covered plastic greenhouse, because if you poke two canes in the pots and lace some string back and forth between them you can't get the pots and support in between the shelf supports if you know what I mean!
I would leave them in a well lit place, not too warm, and hopefully they won't grow to much before the weather warms up enough for you to use a growhouse for them. I usually plant mine in a trough.

I have 2 x 18cm pots going spare at the moment so I was going to put them in there, should I put some canes in too? how tall? I have a bit of room in the hallway in front of the window, it doesn't get very warm there but does get a lot of light. Is this ok?

I suggest that each time you pot them on you mound the soil up so the stem is raised above the soil level a bit - all cucumbers are susceptible to stem rot. As the temperature warms up stand the pots in a large saucer and water from beneath only to help prevent this. They look like lovely and healthy plants, missredhead - hope you get loads of cucumbers from them

That is a good tip from 4P Missy, do water them from the bottom - I bury a plastic cup in my trough and water through that.
It depends what variety they are as to how tall they get - can your daughter find out from the seller what they were?
I would think the hallway should be fine until it is warm enough to put them outside. Do you have any idea where you are going to put them eventually?

I have no idea where they will go eventually I will hopefully be emptying one of the mini GH's soon so maybe if I take Jas's idea and remove the shelves I can put them in there. I'll get my daughter to ask the guy that she got them from what they are.... Thanks for your help

I think I'm going to take out the top 2 shelves this year MRH and run string from the shelf the cucumbers are on to the roof support. Then they shouldn't get too squashed together up round the roof.
