The guy that planted them said that he grows them in a heated GH or indoors. If I want to put them outside I have to make sure that they are protected from winds and rain Will probably leave them in the hallway for now. The link didn't work Tig, just sent you to Wilkos homepage.

one per pot? I'll have to go to Wilkos soon then. Yep I do one per pot, it's a really useful size pot imo. As for support, you don't have to let them grow up hill, they can go horizontal. Amazing what you can do with a a few canes and some gdn wire. You might be able to rig something up with one of those expanding cane thingymejigs or even some netting secured to canes

My mini-cucumbers are in 14" pots...one per pot, each one takes a gro-bag's worth of compost.

Hmm, well without bees or similar flying things to do the job I find it helps (I use an art brush to get into the middle of the flower) And most varieties taste better if you remove any male flowers as soon as you spot them (they are the ones without a mini-cucumber behind them). x Tig

I found an old eye liner brush so gave it a wash and tickled the flowers with that. I have a few more flowers but not sure if they are the male ones that you mentioned..will take a pic tomorrow so that you can see and let me know

You can't miss them Missy - the productive flowers have a small cucumber looking shape behind them, the males are just flowers on a thin stem x Tig

Something I'd always wondered about too Missy, I never knew the difference between male and female flowers you live and learn, thanks Tig.

By eck you are a quick learner Missy Top of the class! Just pinch the male flowers off as soon as you spot them, and tickle the females (sounds about right to me ;D) x Tig

I have tried quite a few varieties and some produce loads of male flowers, whilst others have hardly any! They should get females just be patient You will be fed up of cucumber sandwiches by the end of summer ;D Once the fruit have set don't forget to give them a liquid feed once a fortnight. x Tig

AS I have 2 plants and you say that I should get lots of cues I have decided to try an experiment....I have left one indoors and have put the other one outside in the mini GH... I wonder if there will be any difference....I will close the door if the temp is due to drop though.

When the little cucumber starts to grow Missy, if it hasn't been properly pollenated it won't 'set' but will start to go yellow rather than green, and shrivel. Hmmm, I have told you to remove all the male flowers, as that is what I do with mine, as recommended on the seed packs, however further reading suggests .... there are some varieties which need male pollen to set the cucumbers So if after tickling none of yours set then I would take your brush across a male flower and then tickle the female, however (nothing is ever simple with gardening is it : in some types the male pollen can make the cucumbers bitter! Shame we don't know what you are growing or we could check! Petita f1, picasso f1 and telegraph improved all require the removal of male flowers, marketmore doesn't mention it on the packet so they could be left on the plant one assumes. x Tig
