No, not that one
I noticed FA's thread about camping and wondered if there are any caravanners out there?
Mrs Bill and I have been caravanning for years, initially with the children of course but since they grew up and flew the nest we have really enjoyed it on our own, although we don't get away as often as we would like.
We bought a new caravan a couple of weeks ago and took it down to Birmingham which is handy for the Malvern Show (which we enjoyed very much by the way). Unfortunately there were a lot of faults which needed ironing out so it has been back at the dealer's this week. I am fetching it home today.
Anyone got any caravanning stories, places to recommend etc?

I am pleased that you enjoying caravanning DrBill - I have only been once and I swore it would be the last time, and up to now it has been.
We booked a caravan on the coast, many years ago, and had arranged to meet up with some friends. We duly arrived a couple of days before and the first full day was glorious and we had a lovely time. On the second day it started to rain - the noise that the rain made on the caravan roof was lovely - soothing somehow...
On the 5th day it was still raining and it was starting to become a rather soggy affair and our friends decided not to come....
On the 11th day it was still raining and the wonderful soothing noise that the rain made on the caravan roof was like Japanese water torture.....it was driving us mad. In the afternoon we packed and headed back home...

That reminded me of the past Dr Bill. We spent most weekends, spring to autumn caravanning when I was younger. We had a slick operation, organised by mum to get the caravan loaded and unloaded and we had some good w/e's and holidays and some very rainy ones! I still love the sound of raining drumming on a tin roof. Each w/e spent with your caravan club meant you got a plastic flag to say where you had been and when and mum used to blu-tak them to a wall in the caravan. Sorry, can't be any help with good sites but you did bring back some very happy memories with your thread title.

I like caravanning dr bill, we like the easy life on holidays, eat when we like, and do our own thing, not have to be on set meal times and stuff, the best place is Cornwall IMO. barbara

I love caravan hols...The only ones I have been in are static ones. My Dad had one when I was a yougster and when my daughter was a baby we brought one in Clacton. We also had one on The Isle of Sheppy too.
In the last few years before my OH died we used to have 2 caravan hols a year... Devon, Yarmouth, Weymouth, Hastings, North Wales...all over the place. I think that Weymouth was my favourite.

Hello, follwing my reply for FA's camping thread, i gave him loads of tips on camping, however i proberbly failed to mention that after being flooded several times in our tent we bought a caravan and have had some fab holidays in it. Too many funny stories to tell, but for any caravaner's out there it is a slow up hill learning curve and we have certainly been learning the hard way and still trying to figure it out!! Snow, rain, hail, flood we've had it all, including ducks swimming through the awning, no, not paddling.....swimming!! i'll choose the right time to fill FA in on the 'real' joys of camping!! Flower

I used to love caravan holidays sadly no more nowadays. Like Barbara- Eat what you like, when you like, do your own thing. I used to love listening to the rain on the roof--Freedom-Lovely--Bigs
