Quick question. Has anyone ever grown these successfully in pots? If what size pot per plant would be beat? I have some very large terracotta pots empty so could put 3 or 5 in one of those. My neighbour has given me some plants and I have no room. Also my soil is very acid (as is hers) and Brassicas usually get club root.

Well I have everything in tubs but I have never grown cauli's or broccoli come to that.
Have a go Ruthie - might just try it myself next year..

Thanks RF. Obviously it's not a tried and tested practice! However, I'll give it a go and report on the outcome! I have actually found some space to plant some in the ground too. No Brassicas have been planted in my garden for 25 years or so so the club root may not appear yet

I was on Thompson and Morgen recently - (half priced seeds) and I noticed that they have club foot resistant varieties of Cauliflower and Cabbage these days.

Thanks Chuckles! I've actually planted some in the ground....nothing to lose. If they get club root that's that!I have some left but don't know whether to dedicate a big pot to them or pass them on to another neighbour!

Ruthie, adding lime to the soil before planting helps combat clubroot

I managed to grow these completely by accident thinking I had planted out Windsor Green Once the heads were cut they carried on sprouting smaller heads l I don't think that they would get on in pots as the plants were quite large

Nice rom's Jean - and good 'second bites' too! I think they've a better flavour than cauliflower... cauliflower can be a bit whiffy, even smothered in cheese sauce. I can take rom's neat.
So, where's Ruthie's then?

I think that they are better tasting that cauli too, shame about the acid green colour though
