This week at the mother in laws we always check her pond for her shes 87 and her eye sight is not to good. I was on my way out to feed her fish when my OH told me to go back. I said why he said theres a snake well the fish food went up in the air. I ran inside the 2foot grass snake had got itself tangled up in the net that covers the pond from herons. It was alive but just couldnt move.My OH cut the netting away but some he couldnt atempt it was realy wrapped in the snakes skin. So he got it free with the net still tangled and we took it to the vet. They kept saying you should have called the RSPCA but we wanted to get it help ASAP. They agreed to take it in and sort it they have a viverium at the surgery. So we left it with them i think it would survive as the net hadnt broke the skin but it needed someone who new what they were doing. I usualy do the weeding in her garden but NOT ANY MORE.

I have never seen a grass snake but I would love to. I used to work in an exotic pet store and the owner used to take snakes and other thing around to schools my job was to take the snakes out onto the grass at the side of the shop and gently squeeze it around the back end to empty its bowels etc boy did I get some strange looks walking from the shop with a 6' Albino Burnese snake around my neck, they are such wonderful creatures and not at all scary.

Beautiful creatures, Grass Snakes, so long, slim and elegant (Adders are definitely uglier!) Nothing to fear from them, but it's the word "Snake!" that freaks you out a bit before you've had time to think properly! When I was at primary school, we used to go swimming once a week at another school, and one day when we got there, there was a HUGE (well, I was quite ickle!) Grass Snake swimming about in the pool!! They really luurrve water, though I should think he wasn't impressed with the chlorine , but of course he couldn't get out, poor thing! The school caretaker got him out with a net and he quickly "legged" (?!) it!

Carolann you have my respect you brave little thing you. I have a morbid fear of snakes even though the grass snakes are harmless I am ok if they stay in there place and i am miles away in mine. ;D

;D Ah yes snakes. Had an adder hiss at me during a walk through the heather. Somehow never got round there again I now make as much of a racket as I can when going through undergrowth. OK you miss out on deer and things but at least the snakes do a bolt as well. And I did dare to hold a boa constrictor of 4 meter once but I draw the line at the venemous ones.

;D Oh dear I don't particularly like them either Snowy. We've had 2 in the last few years in the garden pond. One time OH caught one and aksed me to hold a carrier bag while he popped it in, I was very brave until he was just about to drop it in and I dropped the bag and scarpered. Had visions of me not being able to close the bag up and it jumping out at me ;D He managed on his own and re homed it near a pond down the lane. Not sure as your supposed to move them really, but
