Anyone got any thoughts on the recent demise of a pop icon ?
I must admit, I wasn't in the least bit surprised at the news. I said often that he wouldn't last into old age after all the stuff he'd done to his body over the years.
Although he made some good (and arguably "groundbreaking") music, I don't think he'd made a decent record in the best part of 20 years and his personal life was "questionable" at best. I think a lot of the blame for that lies with his father but even so, he made some very bad decisions in his life and at worst, he allegedly molested children.
I think his music will live on but the immediate beatification of the man by some of the media, turning him into "Saint Michael" (no, not the M&S brand.......) has been quite nauseating.

I feel sorry for his family and children but I am afraid that this news has had no great impact on me. I also disagree with the comparisons to the death of the undisputed King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. I remember feeling genuinely shocked that night and spent the entire evening of Tuesday 16th August 1977 listening to the Radio Luxembourg special programme when they suspended all commercials. I still have part of that show on audio tape somewhere. Granted I was only 18 then as against 21 ahem 50 now but even so it's not really a big event for me.

There are devotees of every individual who acquires 'celebrity' status, and just like in all things in life, we choose who we admire. I really do like listenning to lots of his music, and some of that comes from liking the music of the Jackson Five where his voice and energy dominated my teenage years. Thriller was magically different at the time, and I can probably name more MJ hits than I can most artistes. Unfortunately, with fame comes scrutiny and that is easily skewed by the media which leads us to judge people without actually knowing them, most folk would have something 'shady' in their pasts if put under a microscope! We are what we are! Good bits and not so good bits. At his best he was a good entertainer, at his worst he was just a man with a few problems x Tig

I agree with all that has been said but.......I am sick of hearing his records every time I turn on the radio.....doesn't matter which station I tune into it's always his music that they are playing. I don't mind one now and again but every other song is his......

I loved MJ and his passing has left the world with a big musical loss. He was a legend in his own right and no one will ever come up to his standerds. His music will live on in years to come. AS for the child molesting thing i dont believe any of it.It was never proved in court and i think it was people trying to get his money of him He was ecentric but i believe he was a very careing loving man and nobody will change my mind. I wish the papers would stop printing rubbish now and leave him and his family to mourn in peace. RIP Micheal Jackson you will be missed.

Must admit that when I first heard the news I was unsurprised and fairly unmoved. But having seen the footage of him rehearsing 2 days before he died, showing that he was apparently well, and fit enough to perform as he used to, I admit to feeling sad that he had not, seemingly, destroyed himself as I had thought, and still had a lot to offer his fans. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif

I read that LG - haven't read all 3 pages of it though so don't really know whether she means the folk who 'forced' him to do so many shows, his doctor or someone else.
