I was sad to read that you want to destroy wasps. You should be encouraging them in your garden - not killing them. I quote Wikipedia "Wasps are critically important in biocontrol. Almost every pest insect has at least one wasp species that is a predator or parasite upon it. Wasps are increasingly used in agricultural pest control. They are also an important part of the food chain" So how about some of us forming a Wasp Protection Society? I will let you know if I get stung!! Francegarden p.s. Have not found French wasps particularly aggressive - so far, anyway.

They can "biocontrol" somewhere else. if the come into my garden, they'll get zapped. I'm absolutely petrified of the little blighters.

I very rarely kill anything like that...we have hornets about so OH has killed one or two in the house - I don't want smallest or the animals to get stung by one of them - but I would only kill a wasp if it was really trying to get me or mine, and they don't do that often do they? Live and let live...(apart fom the rodent hordes, obviously! And even they have gone away it seems...)

I don't think I ever kill just for killings sake anything, except slugs and snails, and they die a lovely drunken death. but we had a wasps nest in our bay window and the council came and sprayed, so lots flew away, but I suppose lots died as well, but that couldn't stay as it was dangerous to the little ones.

I was just thinking about this thread as I was doing the ironing, is it only men who are wasp wimps, Andy and FA, both admit to being scared of them , my son in law is terrified, and my friends hubby actually puts the kids in front of him, if they come near him ;D

My pathological hatred of them comes from being attacked and stung at least 20 times on my back and a*se when I was about 3 years old.
I know they're good for the garden and "manage" the pests to a degree. I just won't have a nest anywhere near me. Sorry, but if they start building a nest (as they did last year in my loft), it's copious amounts of Raid and goodbye you evil stripey little b*stards ;D
