I was wondering what server people use to get online. I use Internet Explorer and have found it a bit slow lately. What do others use how have you found it and how do you get it set up I wonder.

Server? I think you mean browser LG. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif I mainly use Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), and also Firefox (FF). I prefer IE7 for GWD as the text is clearer than FF, but on the other hand FF is better for uploads/downloads so I am more likely to use FF for Photobucket or downloading software or audio and video files. Although there is a new version of IE (IE8) available I have decided not to upgrade for now at least until the 'newness' wears off and any problems have been ironed out. I did try Google Chrome a few months ago but deleted it as I didn't like the layout.

We use Internet Explorer 8, Firefox or Opera. OH sorted them all out. I usually use Internet Explorer as I don't have to put in passwords each time I log on using that.

How would you like your type changed? If you want a different font, go to edit, preferences, content, advanced, and you can choose the font you like best from a long list! You have to set all four in the advanced section rather than just the default font in content, as the default font doesn't override proboards. I currently have the proportional one set to sans and the others set to Liberation sans, but I have played about with different ones over the years! They will change everything though, not just proboards, so you have to check which ones look good with all the sites you use. Don't worry if you click one and everything becomes gobbledegook - just click a different one! Some of them turn everything into symbols. If you want your type to be bigger (NB a lot of the fonts you can change to will also make the type bigger and easier to read, so it's probably sensible to play about with those first) you can set a bigger font size at the same time, but this will mean that some sites you look at will look a bit odd (the occasional bit of text over the pictures and vice versa). You could also download Aeon big, which makes Firefox generally bigger (all the icons and top menus etc): addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/767 (that seems to take you to a US version - can't remember whether that's the one I've got or whether there's a UK one as well - remind me to ask R if you're interested).

PS - oh, and you need to uncheck the bit that says "allow pages to use their own fonts rather than my selections above"

I'm using IE8 and I find it to be slow on occasion but generally I have no problems with it. I've never tried anything else because I've never really felt the need for it. IE8 (and the previous versions) have always done what I wanted so I don't feel the need to try anything else.

If Microsoft XP is intalled on your PC as the operating system and you have updated to IE8 then you may be interested to know that there have been a few teething problems with it Vulnerabilities associated with ActiveX controls have been identified (technical information is here .. support.microsoft.com/kb/973346/ ) Provided that you have automatic updates for Windows turned on (enabled) you should have got the fix, but there are still a few problems as yet unresolved. Also, if you use Mozilla Firefox and have upgraded to 3.5 you need to get the latest 'fix' as per version 3.5.1 - some Java-script problems were found and have been addressed. Don't ask me what any of the above means, I'm just sharing the info (I know nothing ;D) x Tig

Thanks for that Tig. I only switched over to FF v3.5 two days ago so I am surprised that I didn't get 3.51 automatically.

It seems you have to update to FF 3.5 first, you then have to go straight back and get the upgrade to 3.5.1 Spruance ... daft innit

That is interesting Tig, I do have windows XP and have IE 8 but have found it a bit slow lately, it's also bumped me out at times. Automatic updates are turned on. I uploaded firefox but it's version 3 at the moment, I'll get used to it first. The thing I don't like is that I can't pin my favourites and have to use the drop down menu for them.

You can put several favourites on your bookmarks toolbar so that they are at the top of the browser all the time - one click and you are there

The other handy thing that I use on Firefox is that you can set it so that typing just the first few letters in the browser address bar brings up a list of possibilities from your bookmarks. This is quite handy for me as in IE I tend to forget where I have bookmarked sites.
