Looking up advice on when to harvest my allotment potatoes, I have found two different opinions. One suggests 3 weeks after flowering (some don't flower - that could be a problem), and others a couple of weeks after the tops die down. Which is correct?

Well this depends on whether they are to be eaten now,as new pots,or stored for winter use.
To eat now, once the flowers have died,or if no flowers, once the tops start to yellow. The skins can be rubbed off.
To store, once the tops have died down, and the skins have set,or cant be rubbed off with fingers

Thanks, farmersboy. That clears up the confusion; both are right, depending on what you want. I take it that with earlies (mine went in late, 1st May), the first answer would count. I have 4 x 17 ft rows, 2 of Dunluce, 2 of red Duke of York, which should be ready soon.

I dug some up this week the tops were starting to yellow, but the skins rubbed off easily, but that's ok they are for eating now not storing.
