I've cleared a bit of space on the plot by taking out the broad bean plants, which had finished, and digging up the last of my early spuds.
I've been growing leeks from seed in a pot and they've now gone in but I still have a nice bit of empty space left.
Any suggestions as to what I could plant in there now ?
Thanks FA x

You might be able to get some sprouting brocolli plants and spring cabbages, if you hunt around. These should have ideally been sown in July but if you can't find any it could still be worth having a go at sowing a few yourself. Overwintering onions can also be sown now for transplanting in October. If you have bare soil that won't be used I'd cover it with horse or farmyard manure or sow green manure that can be dug in later.

You might get away with a late sowing of rainbow chard as well, mine says sow up to mid August. Plus any of the oriental greens I think can still be planted Pak Choi, Tatsoi, Choy Sum are just a few. Winter radish (mooli), perpetual spinach, coriander and you can sow mixed salad leaves, mizuna, mesclun.

I don't even know what half of them are Tig ;D
However, I like the idea of some sprouting broccoli and spring cabbage so I'll have a look and see what I can find. I've got some red sprouting broccoli seeds from 4P so I could have a go with them, couldn't I.
Thanks

You could maybe pop to your local market and see if anyone is offering any vegetable plants for sale. I often forget to sow the right things at the right time and those plants wrapped in old newspaper bundles on markets are pretty good value. Overwintering cauliflowers, cabbages, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc, all bought from markets at this time of year, have all performed well for me over the years

FA I've just sown another couple of rows of carrots and spinach, there are lettuce that can also still be sown for another couple of months.
