Yesterday OH was out in the car when a warning light "pinged" saying "deflated tyre". He looked and felt, but saw nothing amiss. He called into our local garage and ( a bit shamefacedly ) admitted that 40yrs of company cars had made him lazy and he wasn't sure if anything was wrong. When garage man checked he said that all 4 tyres were illegally bald i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/shocked.gif even though the car has only done 23000 miles. He said that some car tyres now only last 17000 miles. I always get my tyres checked by my local garage before we go on a long trip. Before we went to Devon this year, I didn't think there was anything wrong with them but it turned out we needed 3 new ones and the tracking done. A £208 bill 2 days before our holiday was not particularly welcome !! You need to keep an eye on these things, don't you.

My exhaust broke, and while it was being repaired they said I needed 2 new front tyres, doubled the original quote,
motoring's not cheap anymore is it.!!!!!!!!!

Word of cynicism - if you think your tyres are OK then get a second opinion, we know a bloke who used to work for a well known tyre company and they were instructed to sell as many tyres as possible - whether required or NOT, and as an aside every time I take the car in to a certain local tyre place (for balancing/tracking or whatever) they tell me it needs new brake discs and pads. Karl takes it in a few days later and its fine does that strike anyone else as slightly odd ? Watch em - they'll stitch you up soon as look at you in some places
