I had a delivery of about half a ton over the weekend to my lottie and paid £70.00 for it - i cant go and collect my own any longer as it too much strain on the knees these days! All I had to was barrow it to my plot - i just wondered if this was expensive? Its lovely stuff though well rotted and with plenty of straw - it came from a dairy farm - I hope i will need a JCB to dig up the spuds this time next year! OH thought it was dear at first until i reminded him of the overheads like fuel and insurance etc - he should have thought of that being in road haulage himself i am interested in other opinions though - over to you!

I paid £45 for a cubic metre of mushroom compost - I don't know how that equates to tons though A cubic metre is one of those builders bags full.

It's £20 a load on our site but any fresher it would still be in the cow. How old is it & is it free of aminopyralid. Older than 2 years & it should be OK I believe.

In terms of the haulage element BB it really depends on how far they had to come with it and whether it was bulky (high cubic capacity etc) and whether it was in bulk or in say a one tonne bag. I shouldn't worry if you're happy with it. There is a riding stable not far from here that offers free bags of horse manure but I have never been tempted. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif

I paid £20 for the transport of 5 tons of mushroom compost, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a bit of help, its good stuff though especially if you can heap it some where and let it mature a bit. Horse manure is free at the end of the lane, which will be matured and weathered for a long while. Compost from the recycling centre is free but it needs collecting which is a bit of a pain, it can be delivered for a fee, but not to my field where I need it, the lane and entrance is too narrow for a lorry Green manure and homemade compost is good too, any organic matter that can be added to the soil or used as a mulch helps to reduce watering and weeds ;D
