Does anyone happen to have any details of reasonably priced travel insurance cover for the over 80s? Every year my aunt flies to Sydney, Australia to spend three months with her daughter. She has a good deal from Qantas @ £894.50 (all-in) for the return flight but at the present rate she is looking to pay almost the same amount again for travel insurance. Previously she has also insured through Qantas and last year the premium was just £200.00 but now Qantas say that they are no longer able to offer cover. The cheapest quote she has found by conventional means is £740 from Age Concern. I have also checked the obvious choices online, such as SAGA who were uncompetitive at £992.74, and M&S who were even worse at £1300.00 Resorting to the comparison sites ( Comparethemarket) I have tracked down an apparently good deal @ £475.84 from a company called Columbus Direct which offers £5million Medical cover, £1500 Baggage, £3000 cancellation together with insolvency cover. Visiting the company website www.columbusdirect.com/index.cfm it also appears that my aunt could confirm final details and buy the policy over the phone. The only problem is that I have never heard of Columbus Direct, then again I can't find any horror stories either and they seem to have a good write up on this review site www.financemarkets.co.uk/columbus-direct-travel-insurance-review/ So my question is has anyone else had dealings with them and are they any good?
