I made a big decision over the weekend - I am going to retire ;D I handed my notice in this morning - I feel a little bit sad as I have worked at the same store for 15 years - since it opened My knees have been telling me it is time to give the job up I have made the right decision ;D

It is a difficult decision to make, I was torn between work which I really enjoyed (most of the time) and having some quality of life with my OH as we had our kids young and didn't really have much 'us' time Up until the day I left I kept thinking it was the 'wrong' decision, and I did go back a couple of times afterwards to undertake projects on a part-time basis. That was when I realised I was happier being able to walk away and leave them all to it! It took a while to adjust, rekindle other hobbies that I had shelved due to time constraints of work and family .. and now I don't know how I ever found time to work ;D Keep in touch with the friends you worked with, I love catching up with them and never brag about life in 'retirement' - well not much anyway How long before you finish? x Tig

There is never a transition period is there; so it is a big leap I often think I would like to retire but I also enjoy going into work GF in USA retired when she was 45 and never looked back - she is/was a Teacher but goes back to the school to help out as and when so she still keeps in touch but has never regretted it Good luck Isabella ;D

Good luck Pam. dont think of it as retirement it will be a post where you pick what you want to do and when you want to do it and you will have lots to do. As Tig says keep in touch with your friends and go out to lunch with them sometimes.

Good luck on your retirment Pam. When i finished work after 12 years at the same place i was so worried i had made the wrong choice but i had to leave through ill health. I know i couldnt have done the job for much longer but yes i did miss all my friends and the laughs we used to have. But i have never looked back at the choice of leaving now. I still go in the shop regularly and there some still there who i worked with and we still have a natter.

I retired in January Pam, so good luck to you, it's wonderful, I love everyday doing what I want, some days lazy some busy, but all mine. and my little ones come to visit some times, so I catch up on what they are up to as well.

I am supposed to be able to retire from the Civil Service at 60 but the way things look at the moment, it's more likely to be 65 (or possibly even later). Having already worked for 23 years, I've got probably the same again until I can stop If you can stop, do it and relax and enjoy yourself. Life's too short to slog your guts out if you don't have to. Best wishes Pam. FA x

How wonderful Pam, I'm sure you won't regret it. I would if given half the chance. I'd think twice about taking up gardening 'tho, I've heard it can take over your life. ;D
