Can anyone please give me some tips on propagating these. I've tried a few times and the leaf always seems to shrivel up before it's managed to root. I can't fathom what I'm doing wrong

If you're referring to begonia rex, then the easiest way to propagate them is by leaf cuttings.
Get a large pot or tray and fill with cuttings compost or similar. water well.
Remove the whole leaf including stalk from the parent plant with a sharp knife
Turn the leaf over and make half a dozen or so cuts through the main leaf vein or rib
Lay the leaf on the compost so the top side faces up
Pin down with small pieces of wire or even pebbles so the cut veins touch the compost.
Put in a warm, humid place. Undersoil heating is good and wrap the tray or pot in a sealed clear bag if you can to preserve humidity and warmth.
Roots and plants will emerge from cut veins in several weeks.

Thanks Andy from what you've said I think maybe I haven't given them enough humidity. I'll try again
