Jenny, Mayo. has always been made with raw egg, and, did you never lick the mixing bowl as a child after making cakes that's raw egg.

These days if you have an egg stamped with the "British Lion Quality" stamp they should be ok to eat raw, even if it isn't recommended.
I don't eat raw eggs because I don't like the look of them, not because of all the scaremongering. I love fresh mayonnaise though and would eat a lot more if it wasn't so fattening!!!

Oh yes I did lick the bowl and am still alive ;D Ice cream is made with raw egg - I notice on Come Dine With Me - they make a lot of puds this way

And you're still with us Jenny!!! Lots of properly made stuff has raw egg in without you really knowing. It's the commercial stuff that has to use an alternative Like you say, real ice cream has raw egg in, as does mayonnaise. Proper chocolate mousse and tiramisu have raw egg in them. And OH makes a cider vinegar sauce for salmon which uses raw eggs. It's delicious I think the quality standard thingy means that the eggs have been pasturised, which much reduces the chance of getting salmonella. Obviously if you were pregnant you would have to be extra careful ;D

I like my boiled eggs runny! Does that count as raw? It isn't cooked is it, 'cos it goes hard when it is .. and I like my fried eggs dippy - so does FB I believe x Tig

I'm not keen on boiled eggs coz I don't like the white so much - I prefer scrambled egg - slightly runny!!! ;D
