Following on from the "difficult seeds" thread, have you ever taken cuttings of the impossible and got them rooted ?
I have taken Japanese maple cuttings and got them rooted in the past. The stock plants were forced into leaf early (March) and the cuttings were taken as 4-5" softwood stem cuttings. had the benifit of bottom heat and a mist propagator and only got a 2% strike rate....but i got some to root !!!!!.
Anyone ever grown azaleas or cotinus from cuttings ?

Well yes , buit not in the way you mean Andy. Last year a few of us decided to take Pepper cuttings...well I was the only one that ended up with one that lived....but it was months in water, wihtout roots, before I decided to put it in a small pot and even then it didn't do anything.... but it is still alive... That pic was taken in March and yesterday it wasn't sooooo far ahead... I reckon it will fruit in 2015 if ever!! However Andy I have the satisfaction of being able to get a pepper cutting to stay alive...even if it still isn't wanting to grow very much. RF
