Lovely photo Mowhay, you must be pleased with your acer. I took mine out of pots last summer and planted them in the ground. I had 5 and 4 of them have survived the winter They are not as big as yours, but they are getting there

Most of mine are in the ground, and the oldest purpureum has always been a bit iffy - it has one side covered in growth and the other side is bare! Orange dream in a pot survived the winter OK, and RF posted a stunning picture of one of hers. That one looks very healthy Mowhay x Tig

That acer is looking really healthy mowhay ;D it must like its position, I have three acers all in the ground, one is looking really lopsided Im going to have to prune it to shape it up.

My Acer is in a pot too Mowhay, it wouldn't like my dry chalky soil. It looks surprisingly good this Spring after the cold Winter we had, but that might have something to do with me re potting the poor thing, it's needed doing for about 2 years.

Hi Nightingale and welcome to the best gardening board on the web (IMO) thank you for the compliment this is my Acer today after a winter of -15 deg C in the north east, notice the bigger pot as I got sick of the gale force winds blow it all over the garden !! The colour isn't well defined as I have just taken the photo at 21:30 , the green tub next to the Acer is about two foot by two foot by two foot, yes RF I'm showing my age !!

It is a nicer colour in real life Jasmine my phone doesn't take great pics and the camera needs to be charged!!!
Think I will put it in a plastic pot and then pop it into a large blue ceramic one that I have.
The ceramic pots look gorgeous but boy oh boy are they impossible to move.
When I pot it up I will post a photo!

I have an acer that has been in a pot for 32 Years! Not the same one all that time, although the same one for the last 7 - 8 years. It looks more like a bonsai as it has lost bits in moves from Scotland to Brighton then to France - 2 moves in Brighton and 2 here in France! But - it is still thriving - in full sun and a windy spot - which they are not supposed to like. Must get sorted out with posting photos and will show it to you.
