Was reading my gardening book last night and it said not to have cucumbers and melons in the same greenhouse - which I have There are no flowers on the melon at the minute so assume it won't have cross polinated yet. I guess I could pot the melon up and move it outside in a big pot, hopefully sheltered but will it still grow? I know the cucumbers are greenhouse ones so can't move them... Jardack

Jardack don't panic I think you are OK to have them in the same greenhouse so don't go chucking your melons out just yet! The modern types of cucumber should be fine, and unless you were wanting to save the seeds for planting another year it shouldn't affect your crops. It doesn't appear that there is any evidence that cucumbers have a bitter experience by sharing space with melons (pardon the pun ) Have a read of this for some reassurance .. www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/hortnews/node/981x Tig

They will be fine JD I have been growing them in the same GH for 3 years now all we need is some sun for them to romp away, but you should get some living down south ;D.

I was reading this thread last night and thought it was you Carolann that had grown them together in your GH, also got a feeling 4P has. Good luck with them Jardack, I've no room for melons now the poly has been taken over by the chickens.
