Took Becks for his weekly blood sugar check. Apparently, it should be between 5 and 12, with most being about 8. My brother ( who is diabetic) says this is in line with humans which is interesting. However, Becks' is ........27!! So the dose has increased. The vet said that if he goes woozy to give him some honey - reminds me of when I had a desk drawer full of Mars Bars for diabetic kids in class........ooh, the strain of not eating them!! ;D ;D

Oh poor Becks. The dose will get sorted eventually. We had to keep coke at hand at one of my schools for the deputy head - just in case he went woozy.

Had to take Toffee to the vets yesterday because she had a fat face (abcess).
Vet nicked and drained it (after giving her a little shave) and then gave her some injections.
I'm meant to bathe the wound twice a day but she's never bloomin around!! She graced us with her presence last night/this morning about 12:30am but I obviously wasn't going to do it then. And now she's buggered off out this morning!

They are sneaky aren't they? They have more than a sixth sense when it comes to having treatment. Bless her heart, I hope it clears up cleanly and that she is feeling better soon

It's looking better but, as you probably know, cats aren't very "clean". They lick wounds and reinfect them. I'm hoping she can't reach this to lick as it's just behind her jaw/onto her neck.
It cost me nearly £60 yesterday so I don't want to have to take her back!!
I knew it was probably an abscess so when the vet was there squeezing it, I just wanted to vomit.
Pee, poo, vomit, snot, blood etc I can cope with (good job with being a first aider innit?!) but pus... you're on your own there!

Poor Toffee I hope it clears up soon . I hope they get Becks dosage sorted out soon Auricula, on the subject of that word you don't like. When I got my 2 as rescues Moo had cat flu & it took the best part of 6 weeks to sort out. We learned very quickly that if she was on your lap & looked like she was going to sneeze to put her on the floor quick Jillyx

B.B. sneezed right next to my head earlier... Luckily, his are just quick and noisy. Bless him, he sounds like a squeaky toy when he sneezes.
Managed to pin Toffee down a little while ago. She wasn't best pleased but well behaved nonetheless!

Just come back from the vets Carolann, thanks for being interested. His blood sugar levels are still way too high, but the vet thinks it's because the test is too near the time he has the insulin. So, I have to take him in on Tuesday at 8am and leave him. They will do 2hourly tests and see what's what.I can pick him up at 6pm. In himself he is much brighter but still not eating much and sleeping quite a bit.....but we're hopeful

It's good that he's brighter in himself Auricula, cats are so good at being very, very miserable when they're feeling under the weather, so hopefully it's a good sign.

That sounds like a good idea Auricula - monitoring over the course of a day. They should get some useful information from that. Glad he seems brighter. I didn't realise cats did poorly - it doesn't seem to me that dogs do.

Bit like OH's then ;D I can actually picture your average cat saying that dogs don't have enough brain cells to do looking off colour ;D

How did Becks get on at the vets Auricula?

Hmm.... we have to try some special new food, stop him having any milk and put his insulin ( which started at 1 unit, twice a day) up to 5 units twice a day. He seems a bit brighter though and is very content

That sounds like good news Auricula, it's great that he's a lot brighter and none the worse for all his troubles. Are you managing the injections ok now?

That does sound like good news Auricula, it's good that he's contented, I think he would be letting you know if he was unhappy.

Thanks girls, yes the jabs are going ok - he doesn't seem to mind at all. I have to do them whilst he's eating, and he doesn't even flinch
