Whenever I call in to pick up a take away at the Chinese opposite my house I alway admire the plants in the shop front. The lady there started of with one & now she's got a whole plantation of them. I came home one evening last week and found this on my door step, wasn't that sweet. They call it either a money tree or a friendship tree. Any tips on looking after it. I've got it in the hall atm, which is west facing. Jillyx

I have one in the hall which is west facing too and it seems to be ok...I also have one in the bedroom which is north facing...I dont think it matters what way they face so long as they get enough light. We have them in school too and they face all different ways and they seem to be thriving....all of them and my ones started off as cuttings from one teachers plant.

Crassula argentia (also sometimes known as the jade plant). They're basically thorn-less cactus. They like hot and dry and free draining, gritty soil. They're also probably grown best in clay pots.
That said, you will get the best out of them if you water copiously in the summer but much less so in the winter. They'll happily take full sun...probably even behind a window, and love being outside in the summer. A weekly summer liquid feed keeps them happy too.
Easy to propagate from tip cuttings or leaf cuttings.
I grew one to about 4 foot high at work once but that was in the ground under glass. It flowered regularly too producing clusters of small, white flowers.
Good luck, they're lovely plants.

A friend gave me one a couple of years back as it was taking up too much room in her concervatory. I keep it out all summer and during the winter it is in a cold greenhouse. It's against the house wall so probably gets a bit of heat from that and is only given small amounts of water when almost dried out.
