What, in your experience, are the fastest germinating seeds around.
I used to think that geraniums were quick....only a few days given the correct conditions but i sowed some night scented stock and they were up in 48 hours.
But nothing can beat the French marigolds i sowed yesterday at around 3pm. Woke up this morning and there's long roots already coming out of the seeds....about 16 hours.
I'd always wanted an electric propagator but the one i bought a few weeks ago is seriously good and i'm sure is responsible for the fast seed germination.
Has anything ever germinated quicker for you ?

The fastest I've ever done were calendulas. They were 3 inches tall in as many days.
Some of my night scented stock are up already and they were sown a week ago.

I sowed the NS stock on moday afternoon and they were up this morning.

I'm using an heated propagator for the first time this year and am really chuffed with it. Morning Glories and ipomoea cardinal were up in 24/36 hours..I soaked them before sowing and some of them were emerging from the seed cases before I got them in the compost! I didn't use the heated propagator for my marigolds, just had them in the (unheated) GH...they took 4-5 days. Well done on the 16 hours Andy

I've sown some African ones this aft, not in the heated prop just on the windowsill with no cover - I will be extremely surprised if they are up tomorrow Some of the seeds I have sown this year have shown quicker than what it says on the packets, but like RF - nothing that speedy. x Tig

Yes they are on an heated prop LG....just the bottom bit though, no top on it.
Well ive just been out to move the marigolds off the heat to slow them down a bit and to put the tray of statice in their place only to find the statice is germinating too.....and that's without bottom heat !!!!

I planted my morning glory seeds last night at about 7p.m. and at 7a.m. this morning one little seedling had started to come through! I did soak the seeds over night before sowing them.

on sunday night, i pre-soaked 3 different varieties of lupins by putting them in a plastic bag with some water and then floating it in my yropical fish tank to keep the temp of the water at around 80f. Monday afternoon i sowed the seeds and put them on my new heat mat with a little one of those clear rigid plastic tops on. just got in and the seeds are up....2 days

If I soak them in warm water for 24 hours first I reckon ricinus must be about the quickest I've seen germinate. 24 hours in a heated propagator and they're usually showing through the compost.

Well done Jas I'm tempted to soak mine I've had to move my ricinus into the dining room where it is a bit cooler, otherwise they will need rehoming before I can plant them out Sporadic germination of the morina longifolia, first one came through and got stuck in the seed pod and died, two more emerged and are doing fine, one more just breaking soil this morning. They were sown 9th Feb! No sign of the molinia transparent despite my inventive efforts! x Tig

I've stuck my Molinia in the fridge along with Mrs Kendall - they've been in there a few weeks now and can come out again early March.

It is still quite early tho. I think that a lot depends on lattitude (as well as attitude!). Here our days are still quite short, and when it IS daylight it's pretty gloomy most of the time so things do get very leggy.

I planted cosmos seeds on Sunday and put them in my heated propagator and there were Cosmos green shoots showing by the next day. Several other plant varieties sown and nothing else showing yet!
