My 2 sowings of dwarf french beans have both failed this year, they rotted my own fault though as I had the compo far to wet. In desperation I bought some young plants the other day called Safari, also dwarfs. Has anyone grown them ? How high do dwarfs usually grow ? Do they need supports or not ?

Go and find some dwarf french bens called "Speedy" chuckles. Short, prolific, tasty and you still have loads of time to sow them. Think Suttons do them xx

Dwarf french beans are what we grown in the GH in huge numbers. Sow the seeds, water and cover with fleece, they don't like cold nights so covering with fleece will help. They should be up within 7 days if the conditions are good, if they take too much longer they won't be worth carrying on with. For transplanting outside they will need to be hardened off for a couple of days. They should grow to approx 12 - 18 inches high and don't need supports. Harvesting over a three week period and they they are nearly finished. Green Arrow is a good all round one to try and if you sow enough for a row every two weeks you should have crops till the end of Sept outside Don't forget the slug pellets as they can be decimated over night
