It seems that every year I have some seeds that just will not germinate, no matter how faithfully I follow the sowing instructions. I thought that by now I should be able to get things to grow. Germination has improved since I got the heated propagators...but I still have a lot of failures. I consider myself 'a gardener' and growing from seed is just about my favourite aspect...surely years of experience has to count for something! it can't all be my fault surely..... I can understand that some seed is best sown fresh...and am absolutely thrilled to have managed to germinate collected seed sown last autumn from the astrantias and hellebores...but the collected Mexican sunflower seed hasn't germinated. This year's failures :
Colocasia Fallax (I knew that this would be difficult, but nothing at all has germinated) Kirengeshoma Palmata Lantana Camera Lavender Blue Lagoon Lysimachia atropurpurea Lysanthus I understand that it isn't good to dwell on the negative...but it's so frustrating. Anybody else ?

I love growing from seed and the more challenging the more I delight in getting stuff to germinate However I always have a few failures. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't, this was a 'don't' year for cobaea scandens - both alba and the purple ones failed on me No luck with musa seeds either, pulsatilla red cloak is a no show so far, and I haven't managed to get one melianthus major to germinate. I have sown hellebores and dogs tooth violets and need to be patient with these I have the heated prop but OH is in Scrooge mode this year so I didn't get to use it. Nonetheless I've had success with a range of other 'tropicals' and challenging seeds. Win some lose some, it is still good trying. Reckon the seeds are duff a lot of the time too x Tig
