Anyone collected their own seeds from some of the better known herbaceous plants ? I was particulary thinking of Hollyhocks and Delphiniums and wondered if they came "true to type"
ive seen some super dwarf yellow hollyhocks and wated to collect the seeds. However, if they're going to come up as 20 foot purple ones, i wont bother.

I'm hoping they do! RF sent me some seed from her lovely blue delphs and I've got them to germinate. However there is always the possibility that the 'parent' plant is an f1 hybrid, then who knows what we'll get It is just as much fun trying though. x Tig

My blue delphinium was from collected seed (same colouyr as the parent)...as were my sweet williams. The astrantias that I have in the CF ready to plant out next year are from seed I collected last summer (sown fresh is best) Cerinthe always seems to do well, particularly if the seed is sown fresh and the baby plants overwintered in the GH. I haven't had any luck with seeds I collected from the tithonia last year tho
