Hi I stumbled upon this forum when I was googling to see if a recent website I had been working on had been found by the search engines. It occurred to me that your members might find it helpful, so I thought I'd post. It's at www.gardenappleid.co.uk You can browse the photo galleries by apple type as well as go through the menu system... see 'how to use this website' section. We are open to feedback to help the site become more useful, or for contributions to be added. I'm also really pleased as now I can find help with my own gardening questions regarding carrots and potatoes particularly,... but I'll check the other threads out first. So glad to have discovered this site! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

Pleased you like the smilies - they will be gone soon to make way for the Xmas ones...
I love the apple site - very informative and as soon as I get a few minutes I will happily add it to the Link Board.
Shout up if you have any questions - there are some good gardeners on the board and we are a happy bunch, - bit daft at times, but happy!!

Hello Carolann and Dutchy I live in the (not so sunny today), Isle of Wight. It was difficult choosing a domain name because of the confusion with apple mac computers - especially as they have an apple id! Hence the addition of the 'garden' I've also had several very confusing conversations with my husband too where he thought I was talking about computers! I'm afraid the site is essentially for identifying apples rather than for caring for the trees Carolann, so it may not be much help for you. The references section may help you - particularly www.orangepippin.com/ which is a very comprehensive site, but not so helpful if you are trying to find which apple you have. I'll look in to that cider thread Barbara. I did try once and then didn't have the courage to drink it I'd like to know how to do it properly.

Hello Geranium! I just had a quick peek at that thread Barbara... what a lot of apples!!!! I will have a good read later. I don't have enough apples for a press so I just use a juicer. It is time consuming but the juice is absolutely delicious - much better than any shop bought stuff. I freeze it too, but nothing beats the fresh juice.

Here in Germany, near Hamburg, there is an area called "Altes Land" where there are kilometres upon kilometres of orchards - everything from Apples to Cherries, Pears etc etc.
Anyoldhow there are loads of places all over in autumn that you can take your apples to and get freshly pressed apple juice in return...even from your own apples if you want to wait or return after a couple of days....we did it once from the neighbours apples - wonderful.

Gosh, hello amber, ladygardener and jilly and thank you for the lovely warm welcome. I can see it's a friendly place and I've already had a good giggle in the funnies thread i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif rosefriend that sounds like an excellent idea - taking your apples for someone else to press. I need to get stuck into juicing this weekend - I've been spending far too long on my computer! I've also got masses of pears that I need to do something with ... well 2 trees full (I must remember I am on a gardeners forum and many people here may have many more ha ha!!) Time to read up on the cider making thread - hmmm you can get pear cider can't you??

nice link ladygardener I can see I have something of an equipment deficit though!! You can't go into this cider making half heartedly can you? Also, I've discovered my rather good pear crop is strangeley lacking any pears on the reachable branches. I fear I am the subject of scrumping!! There are plenty for my family though. This also happened a few years ago... every day I was watching a real bumper crop, trying to decide when to harvest - the next day I looked and the whole tree had been cleared, other than 1 pear right at the very top!!

Barbara: Well at least the local kids are getting their 5 a day WW. ... but I'm surrounded by pensioners Last time when they emptied the tree, a local farm lost all it's apples, so I think someone took them all to market.... I suppose at least they left me enough this time i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif ....not sure if I managed to add that quote correctly!!
