Used by people on Slimming World to give a boost to weight loss. But it's a nice veggie soup, I prefer it blended and also like putting B/nut squash in there too.
1 can mixed bean salad 1 can green lentils 2 cans chopped tomatoes 1 can baked beans Handful of split lentils 2 large leeks 1 large onion 4 large carrots 2 parsnips Green, red or yellow pepper 2 beef/chicken/veg stock cubes (whichever you prefer) Salt & pepper Mixed herbs Water (enough to cover all ingredients)
Chop all veg and put everything in pan, cover with water bring to boil and simmer until veg are soft.
Can be left chunky or blended.

Blimey, by the time I'd bought and amassed that lot, chopped and cooked it I'd be too knackered to eat it ;D ;D Thanks TT, are you still doing SW?

Thanks for sharing this - I've got most of the ingredients in the cupboard apart from the green lentils, so I'll make some later this week. Bet it tastes scrummy with four or five huuuuge dumplings x Tig

Erm, I don't think the dumplings would aid the weightloss lol As for being knackered chopping it all... you can buy a lot of it frozen or tinned and it's just as good as fresh! Apart from the frozen leeks I got, they're disgusting Flour and fat would be high "Syn" value on SW. The purpose of the soup would be to fill you up, but for you to not get much from it in the way of calories or fatty/sugary bits your body is likely to hold onto. But no, I don't do it anymore. For me, it's not such a good eating plan as if I ate what it says I can eat (which is everything) I'd end up putting weight on (and I did!). My problem is calorie intake. I'm not doing anything to burn them off because of me 'ed. So it's all well and good saying I can eat as much fresh fruit and veg as I like, but if I'm not burning those calories off, I'm going to put the weight on. The main things I have changed that has been because of SW is floury things and using frylight instead of oils etc. I would say I don't drink as much, but that's largely due to feeling rubbish and my tablets saying to avoid alcohol lol If you're on facebook, look for groups like dietmomma, craig's slimming world food lines, slimming world member support, etc They're free groups and have recipes from SW groups and magazines and stuff on them. Dietmomma is quite good, she has recipe sheets up for all kinds of stuff. It can be quite an expensive diet though if you're buying all fresh stuff, but it doesn't have to be. There's quite a lot of processed food that's "Syn free" or low syn. To be honest, it's a common sense diet. If you've been eating 17 mars bars for breakfast, 2 takeaways for lunch and then go to the pub every evening and then swap that for porridge, fruit and salmon with new potatoes, you're gonna lose weight! I don't know why some people are so astounded by that fact lol

No fat doesn't always mean low calories It has taken me since this time in March to lose 22lbs. I've exercised when I can, I joined SW, followed that plan, got demoralised seeing everyone else losing so much weight whilst eating exactly the same stuff I was eating... Being told that I might be not eating enough... I joined SW and saw people lose in their first week what I'd lose in 3 months. It's depressing! What I have done though, is signed up to MyFitnessPal.com (it's free!) and you can input your food/drink/exercise into there and it'll tot up your calorie intake for you. That works better for me.

It's surprising the difference a couple of lbs makes. I know this is going to sound daft, but you don't realise how much a couple of lbs weighs until you carry something and think "I used to weigh this much more, I can't believe I used to lug it everywhere with me". If someone asked me to carry 22lbs everywhere I went I'd tell them to sod off ;D
One thing I would say though, Asparthame is a nasty substance, try to find sugar free alternatives without it if you can x
Berries and melon on SW are considered speed foods-fill you up but don't give you much, might be handy to have to chopped melon and raspberry in the fridge or something? Apples are good. All Fruit is "free", uncooked and not tinned. Frozen is ok. All veg is "free" (including potatoes) as in you can eat as much as you like of it, apart from Avocado as it's fatty, albeit good fats. All lean meat is free (mince as long as it's about 3% fat is free) and fish apart from smoked mackerel (I think that's the really tasty oily one isn't it?).
Then you have your dairy stuff as your A choice and your fibre stuff as your B choice. So depending on the cheese (28g of cheddar) or milk (250ml semi skimmed) as your A and 2 slices of small 400g loaf brown bread for B choice and I think of any other B choices right now lol
Then there's the 5-15 syns a day which is where your flours, chocolate, oils, alcohol etc come in. You can use them daily or save them up if you're going out for a meal or something at the weekend for example.
That's SW in a nutshell. The magazines that are out monthly or so have recipes in, have a go look see in one to see if one takes your fancy. But £5 a week to go get weighed, unless you need the kick up the backside is just excessive IMO...

BMI is a crock of poo IMO. You can't tell me that someone like me who's had a physical job for years, who is also at peak bone density, should have the same BMI as an elderly lady of the same height who has osteoporosis?! Load of rubbish. If I got down to the BMI of "normal" I'd look like a lollipop lol And I bet there would be a SW group there, there are 5 within a few miles of me and I'm hardly in a town or city. I quite like that myfitnesspal thing. It'll work out roughly how many calories you should be having a day and then you can just enter what you'd had and done and it'll work out whether you're over your calorie allowance for the day. Helps you keep track. Also, try to keep track of any bits you might not realise you're eating, reduce portions a little and drink more water Not very interesting but it's all I can advise without knowing the full ins and outs of everything you eat lol

I've joined the Myfitnesspal thing and filled in my exercise and food/drink consumption so far today - it says I've not had enough calories and should eat more (I even owned up to eating a Twirl ;D)

Daughter and I made a pan of soup the other day not sure how many cals in each serving 4 carrots chopped 1 onion chopped 3 medium pots (skins on) cubed 1 1/2pts of boiling water with 2 chicken stock cubes in 1/2 of milk knob of marg/butter put all veggies in pan with butter/marg for a few mins, add stock and milk then bring to the boil, simmer till cooked then blitz or eat as it is. It was so thick I broke the blitzer I have had it for quite a number of years now so its served me well, you could use skimmed milk and low fat marg.

The marg and milk up the "Syn" value on SW Carolann and it doesn't have the same effect. It's not just a veggie soup, it's a soup that's meant to fill you up, but doesn't give you much calorie wise. It's full of what SW call "speed foods", foods that speed up your weight loss because they fill you up with few calories, hence the name.

Tins of mixed beans and green lentils are on offer in Sainsburys at the moment (own label) - 5 cans for £2 - lots of different types of beans too. I have stocked up, hope I won't be exploding when I've finished eating this concoction ;D
