I'm getting a bit excited as the brochure is supposed to be delivered today and I am hoping that I get sent a copy asap....
We have been given the Jury member list as well and someone called David Littlewood is coming from the UK and Eamonn de Stafort from Ireland plus, of course, the other 9 countries (should be 10 but France isn't coming for some reason..)

Thanks for that Tig - typical innit - David Littlewood is the only one that hasn't got a photo...!! Just googled and he looks human - hope he like us!!
Had a mail last night to say that the brochures have arrived and we can go and collect one or two - we are going on Sunday/Monday - not sure yet as it is a BH here...
Ooooo my name in print - famous at last - can't wait to see it all!!

Well things are heating up for the Entente or EnteEnte (Duck, Duck) as we tend to call it...
I am on my last translations for the big day and with going on for 200 hours I feel I have done my "wack". However from the Redaktion team I have actually done less that the others.
I am now doing a last speech for Olaf and one for myself....dear oh dear I got dropped in it, good and proper...
A new senior citizen centre is to be build in Doetlingen but there are very different thoughts as to how it should be done and as feelings are running so high and a massive 5 metre placard has already been erected, it was deemed better that someone that doesn't come from Doetlingen did the speech and there has to be a speech as you can't very well miss the Placard...!!
On the 3rd and 6th July we have got two rehearsals each 2hours long and we walk through all the stages - also get to be on a horse and cart or horse and tractor depending on how things go. I am to be the translator for the day but an Australian woman is on hand to help as well.....
I have made a hair appointment to make sure that my golden locks (hahaha) are just right for the day...have washed OH's favourite shirt that he bought in the UK - must decide what I am going to wear for the day and the knees up in the evening!!
The Jury are travelling up from Holland and will arrive around 11am on the 14th July....then the pressure starts building up. We actually start at 1pm until 5pm when we all breathe a sigh of relief and hope that we haven't cocked too many things up....
It has certainly been an experience up to now anyway...will update after the first dress rehearsal next week....

Break a leg and I will keep my fingers crossed most of the day

Thanks Dutchy and Mowhay...
Yesterday was the first of 2 Rehearsals....
The day was a pain as my hardware firewall decided to give up the ghost....mmmmh not quite true...I went to the loo and when I came back I smelt hot cables and after a hurried phone call to my IT man who said "plug out and get it to me"... That resulted in being without PC's for over 24 hours... I finally got back online mid afternoon today !!
However, we had to go to the first rehearsal which turned out to be totally and utterly exhausting!! Arrived at 6.50pm, rest all turned up for 7pm and then we started on the first part of the 4hour tour (on foot) that we have to do, in one go, on the 14th July... We had worked out 2,5 hours just for convenience and at 10.30pm ended up at a hotel totally knackered and after pushing 3 tables together and getting 20 chairs around we ordered ice cold beer (it was hot yesterday) and didn't really say a lot until that had been drunk, with sigh's from everyone... Then we got to the nitty gritty and it turned out that everyone had exceeded their time apart from yours truly (yippee)... As soon as I managed to get my PC's working and downloaded my mails I realised that I have yet again loads of work to do!!
At 11pm we were still talking and it had got cold..so...as is the German way, all who want, get blankets to wrap around their shoulders...lovely..
We started working out what to do..and and and... the 2nd/3rd beers went down just as well and we finally go home just before midnight....we slept like logs..
Managed to get my window in the guest bedroom finally painted..tomorrow I must do all the new translations. The on Friday 9.00am OH and I are going to the Junior school to teach 13 kids how to speak English "for the day".. At 3.00pm I am meeting up with a girl who needs help with her speech and at 4.00pm we are all meeting up again for the next 90minutes of the tour which is with a cart and horse - or cart and tractor...not sure yet...
Still so much to do and D-day is only just over a week away !!
Oh yes and the Press suddenly appeared...4 pics were taken and are to appear.....oh nooooooo!!!!

I think most of us are knackered now LG... In the regional paper this morning was a pic that was taken on Tuesday evening from the first rehearsal....I am very pleased to say that only a small bit of me is showing... Olaf is doing his bit in the school garden where we have just come back from. The rehearsal with the kids went very well indeed and we all had a lot of fun. The press were once again present but we persuaded him just to take a pic of the kids at the end.. Off again at 3pm de time to help someone do their speech and then the 2nd rehearsal begins at 4pm de time. Should be a laugh as it is getting very heavy and thunderstorms are apparently on the way. However tonight we are on a horse and cart - only the horse has been substituted by a tractor. Not so nice but apparently the last time the horse shied and things got a little hectic for all those on board...plus it got a bit smelly more than once !! RF

Thought you might Missy... there is hardly a week without a pic of Olaf in the paper... Well we did the 2nd part of the rehearsal yesterday afternoon/evening and thankfully it was shorter than the first part. Some speeches have still got to be shortened but we were better... In the newspaper this morning is a pic of the kids doing their bit. I can't get it online for some reason so I have taken a pic of the newspaper. Not so clear but clear enough for you to see that they are having fun... The idea is to go through the school garden and point out things but in a funny way and of course in English and for 6 - 8/9 year olds they did very well indeed!! RF

Well, it all looks to have gone well upto now RF. Yes things are starting to pan out but we are all tired and I for one will be happy when it is all over...just hope the weather holds...no idea what we do if we really get bad rain...hey ho!! Yesterday we were in a horse and cart except that the horse had changed into a tractor!! Is he that famous then RF? OOOh I have met a celebrity ;D The kids look like they are enjoying it... Famous?? Nah not really but well known in the area, involved in many things and a successful business man... The kids had a great time... one had to say creepy crawlies and the creepy came out and the crawlies was whispered...I went through it with her and then she was fine...she is holding a massive spider on a string when she says that.. Famous in Doetlingen and around ;D ;D ;D Hiding from the cam RF? Tskkkk ;D I hope you did not get the awful weather and plants are still looking good. And me thinks it is, despite stress, not just the kids having fun. Well I had little chance to hide from the press yesterday, the camera man Peter is a local and I reckon he is trying every trick to get one of me as every time I see him I turn my head away but he is crafty and may well wait until I do my little speech!! We are desperate for the rain Dutchy - other places have been hit hard but we haven't had anything...a few drops yesterday evening but you could literally count them!! Doetlingen is looking good and everyone involved has been working hard....the gardens are fantastic..I will be under too much pressure really to enjoy it all as I am with the jury all the time but I hope it is worth it in the end.. Just had a visitor in the form of Eckehard Hautau who is the Chairman of the Citizens and Civic Association in Doetlingen and one of the main organizers...
Went through some of the things that have to be explained "on the day"...even to the point of mentioning the toilet situation. The Jury are getting nibbles and drinks throughout the 4 hours so I have no doubt that one or the other will need a loo....
The men, as usual, have it easy although I don't think that someone would be pleased to have someone peeing on his prize cabbage but we hope that isn't going to happen!!
The weather is supposed to be getting slightly better on Saturday - can't really get a lot worse although we are getting a few blue moments !!! We have decided to take spare clothes, umbrellas and rain jackets...
