Oh no, dropping folk back at that time isn't very sensible.

That's a real shame RF you put a lot of work in to the preparation of the brochure and speechs

I'm sure someone would put you and OH up for the night in the village RF - without your help the brochure and the speeches would not have been so well interpretted. According to various websites the average tour of the 'site' is 7 hours, and I have read that some people were disappointed in their experience, although the cable car ride is a 'must' evidently. Have a read of the comments on here RF (if you haven't already seen them), I found it interesting www.travelsignposts.com/Netherlands/news-events/floriade-2012-venlox Tig

I did think of asking someone and I am certainly not backwards in coming forward but although just about everyone knows me in Doetlingen (I hear the "that's her) whenever I am there, but of the people that I could ask and indeed they would offer, all of them are booked into the overnight stay...so I doubt any joy will be had with that though. The day tour is with the farmers...don't really feel that it is the time in my life to start miking a cow somehow!! I haven't had a reply yet from anyone, so I suppose they could be trying to work out what to do or they have just accepted that we won't go. I saw pics of The Floriade that some posted on the Beeb...here is the link.. s190.photobucket.com/albums/z312/Paul_Narramore/Floriade%202012/and they were disappointed... I did send them to Olaf who promptly said that it would all be better later on...possibly. Holland lost 20% of all their plants this last winter....however you can see by the planting on some of the pics that there is a lot missing and it would have to be more than double as good for me to even want to go and see it... I would certainly hope that the summer planting has been done better.... Yes I have heard the cable car is wonderful but that a lot are disappointed and the money that is charged for the slightest thing is extortionate.. Rf

I know you'll be disappointed not to be able to go Rf but it does sound like an awful lot of effort.

Heavy hearted but I decided not to go... I spoke to Olaf and Eckehard and both said that they were sorry but both understood that for my OH it would just not have been practical.. Olaf mailed the other day and said that he would ring/txt me as soon as the announcement has been made on the 14th September and that everyone that was going was to be given a scarf which has been especially designed and made for the occasion... I am to get one too!! Here it is..... RF

Just been rung and it is Silver!!
All a little disappointed but Silver medal is still marvellous in the whole of Europe!!
Didn't quite understand but it could be Austria that has won Gold - will hear more tomorrow...
I am still proud to have been a part of it all!!!

And so you should be, and they should be proud to get Silver - quite an achievement I reckon! Well done to them all - I think someone should breed a 'silver' rose to mark the occasion x Tig

Thanks Tig and LG - my head says that we had a couple too many last night!!
I have been trying to upload a pic but PB isn't playing ball, will try later...
I have more info as the paper is absolutely full this morning!!
To win Gold you needed 85 points, 75 for Silver and 65 for Bronze ...from all the towns and villages only 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 1 Bronze Medals were presented..
The judges were very complimentary about Doeltingen and praised many parts of it and believe that it can develop more in the future!!
Gamlitz in Austria won Gold and then my secret tip as well - Abbeyshrule in Ireland.
Silver won Lovo in Hungary, Saviglino in Italy, Ermelo in Holland and Cerklje na Gorenskem in Slovelia and of course Doetlingen.
Bronze won Drmoul in the Czech Rep.
There were a couple of special prizes and Gamlitz in Austria won the "Green Space and Health" prize and the "Dr Lucija Cikes Prize" that we entered as well was won by Rustington in the UK...
Do hope that the papers write something Jilly - it is really a magnificent prize!!

RF, a very good result after all your hard work. I've had a look in the local papers, but nothing about the Rustington prize yet, the papers are only weekly though, so I'll check next week. I'll send you a link if I find anything. Jillyx
