I've got either a little baby blackbird or thrush sheltering in my garden. He/she was being chased yesterday by a cat and flew up against the window, it was stunned but then flew away. This afternoon I heard the little cries for help and found it under the oblisk. It's not obviously hurt but does'nt seem able to fly. I've left some suet pellets and water near it but it gets all excited and more frightened when I get too near it. I wonder if there's anything I can do for it. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif Perhaps it just needs to get a bit stronger before it can fly in the gusts of wind we're having. Does anyone know what else I should do.

Thanks so much Jilly, it's moved now and is sheltering well underneath the Heuchera. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/sad.gif I saw the big blackbird down with it a few mins ago and now the suet pellets have been broken up and are nearer to it so I'm thinking it was trying to feed it, either that or what I now see are crumbs. It's dark windy and raining now so hopefully that'll keep the neighbourhood cats away and at least it's well sheltered.

I think you have done everything you can for the little thing LG and seeing as one of the parents is still hanging around it may just survive so finger crossed for it.

You can do no more LG. What a worry though. A friend protected one from her cats and overnight it disappeared so hopefully yours will build up its muscles and nerve and disappear too.

Thanks all for your help and support. I had a look around the garden but can't see it at the moment. I don't want to disturb all the places it could be hiding under in case I frighten it again. Hopefully it'll fly home tomorrow, there should be less wind anyhow, if it's not already gone. The 2 blackbirds who nest nearby have been in and out all day. I'm so glad I did'nt lift it up. Thanks for the link Juliet, very helpful.

Same thing again this morning, that little blackbird is having a hard time of it and I do fear for it. Today it was out on the street and a cat was lurking, I chased the cat away and the adult blackbird kept peeping at the baby bird. I do hope it gets stronger soon.

Honestly, my garden is turning into a bird nursery. Yesterday a little baby Chaffinch was stranded or at least taking a long rest on the grass while the parent was flying to and from the bird feeder with the sunflower hearts in it and munching them a bit then giving them to it. Today, same thing again. I'm on edge the whole time in case a cat comes around. Fab to watch 'tho. Then they both fly away. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif
