Oh yes, i have been given a Herman or a "German friendship cake"
Anyone seen this ? it's the culinary equivilent of a chain mail letter.
Anyway, someone gives you a small bit of this mix which you leave out uncovered for 10 days, stirring daily. On day 4 and day 9, you add milk, flour and sugar.
Then, on day 9, you divide the mix (a batter) into 4 equal portions, you keep one and give 3 to friends with the instructions.
The bit you keep you then (on day 10) add lots of other things such as apples, vanilla essence and you bake it. It's apparently a sour dough cake.
Can't wait !!!!!

My Headteacher was brewing one in her office - smelt like a brewery - not good in school!

I've been given some to eat Andy; it was lovely. I'm afraid I wouldn't want to be responsible for looking after the cake mix. It would be a disaster. Can't deal with having to do the stirring over a number of days.

We have this going round at school too...cant say that I fancy it if it has milk and such like in it that has been hanging around for gawd knows how long..........I have so far avoided being given one....

Ive just cooked 2 new "Hermans" today...one for the cake stall at the local fete tomorrow and one for us and literally just had the first slice. It's probably one of the most delicious cakes ive ever had !!!
