Has anyone come across or grown the Tomato `Squaw`? It has been highly recommended by someone I met recently for good flavour.

Yes, I got the name wrong but the right Red Indians!!
The name of the Tom is SIOUX.

Yes I have heard about it, an oldie - isn't it supposed to have a fantastic flavour?
Never had it but I am all in favour of keeping up with the older varieties...not always a great crop but the taste!!
Let us know should you decided to try it...I would be very interested..

Sorry Rosefriend, I made a mistake with the name. It is SIOUX not Squaw - the confusion came from all those old Cowboy films!!!

Yes I saw that Bigolop and realised when I googled Tomato Squaw only to be given a link to the Rotten Tomatoes website and a firm called The Squaw Man - haha!! Then I remembered when I saw your subsequent post that the tomato Sioux was one that I had intended growing here as it is supposed to be fantastic tasting and also exceptionally good with extremes of climates. Needless to say as I couldn't find the seeds in Germany, I never grew them, but I would love to know if they are as good as their reputation... www.plantsofdistinction.co.uk/acatalog/A-Z_of_Vegetables_TOMATO.htmlRF

Look at the website - Plantsofdistinction.co.uk - write Tomato in the `Name` box and then scroll down through all the Toms until you reach Sioux. The seeds cost £1.90 plus postage - £1.95 in the UK but £4.50 outside.
Seems costly for a packet of seeds but we hope we find them good Toms next year..

No problems - I will see if I can find the seeds on this side of the water !! The cost is too much really...especially when I pay in Euro....nearly 8.50E for the seeds and postage....

Just bought my seeds of Tom. Gourmet for next year. They really are a fantastic flavour and crop heavily each year - this is my 5th year of growing them. They are not inexpensive (£3.99 for 15 seeds) but you will not be disappointed. I sound like a Rep. for the variety producers but I am not, I am a retired Medic.
If you think Moneymaker, Shirley, Ailsa Craig, etc. etc. are good flavour, you MUST grow `Unwins Gourmet` and see what "good flavour means".
