Lovely Andy, I like the way that frost changes how I see a garden, the hard landscaping becomes more visible somehow. Bet some of those paths were a bit slippy! How often do you get such cold temperatures?

Because the garden faces north east Tig, if it gets cold, it stays cold all the time even when just across the road, it can be glorious sunshine and nice in the sun....i get no sun at all from November to March !!!

It looks very cold Andy. Parts of my garden stay frozen for days too and don't get sunshine in winter.

Is that the building that the work has been done on Andy. I love the shape of it! Yes Jas, we started on the decorating today. As we've had no heating for years, the walls and ceilings have all gone horrible and the paint was blistering and peeling. So me and my 3 volunteers started scraping that off. I'll get some stabilising solution on it then it will be painted "hint of green" It's like a tardis inside....absolutely massive !!!!

What was the building built to be used for?

What was the building built to be used for? Originally, the building stood in the Level in the centre of Brighton. They took it down block by block and rebuilt it in 1936. It's first function was as a tea house. Unfortunately, i don't know what it was used for until i was a trainee there in 1985 when it was a tool shed. The chalet was also thatched but someone torched it. It was re-thatched and subsequently torched again so it's now wooden shingles on the roof. I got in there in 2000 and there was evidence suggesting that it had been used as a childs nursery around the mid 90's (i still have an insurance certificate from 1996 for "plumtree nursery") People often ask why it's not reopened as a cafe again but to be honest, we already have 2 cafes in the park opposite and they're sometimes empty for days.

It is great to find out what they buildings were used for in the past. Have you asked in the local press for residents memories of their use Andy? It might generate some good information and maybe even a few more historic photos of the park - you could perhaps suggest that a 'local peoples history board' is put up somewhere with credit to those who supply photos?

for that lovely Mahonia. The garden looks cold and asleep and also very promising for next year. I understand people would like to see the building re-opened. It would make a lovely place to sit and rest. Thanks for sharing Andy
