Can you tell me, the Primula denticulata, does it grow it's long stalk after the flower opens. I understood it has a long stalk with the flower on top?

I'm not sure what Primula denticulata is meant to do Ladygardener, but mine are coming into bud really low down too & I'm sure they were on tall stems when I bought them last year

Thanks for the noms and comments ladies.
RF...not too sure about the size of picture, i just upload it from photobucket and put it on here. To be honest, i've just left clicked the photo, clicked "set as background picture" and it fitted to the screen perfectly.
We have about half a dozen Jay's in the garden along with a fantastic resident family of crows (who enjoy eating the spongy stuff off my jaffa cakes) and magpies.
As for the denticulata, their common name is drumsticck primula so it would suggest that they should come up on a stalk. I think mine get a bit of footfall from people walking through the beds so they tend to get a bit compacted. I'll put some pics up if they do produce stalks.

Just tried andy and it looks great - many thanks. My Denticulata's are also the same - starting to flower at the bottom and I know they should have a long stalk. I bought 3 that are all on long stalks, so I can only think that the stalk starts later.. RF

Looking great andy, the trouble is all your pics are so wonderful I never know which ones to pick out for a nom, but I'm going to go for these 2 </img> I love the expanse of blue Anemone blanda, I was feeling quite pleased with myself because I'd had just the one plant come through the winter

I think it's called 'Orangery' RF. Pretty sure we're going to have around 100,000 bulbs to plant this autumn. apart from large drifts of snowdrops, early daffs and bluebells in the woodland areas, im looking to seriously increase the ornamental daffs and to get lots more Anemone blanda, De Caen anemones and ranunclus as well as loads of unusual summer flowering bulbs. Me and the boss do clash over what should go on in the garden but he usually relents and says "it's your garden, do what you want". Today we agreed that he could say what happens with the hard landscaping and i'll do the plant choices. I want to have all his babies lol Should be fun !!!!!!

Now that sounds a good "compromise" Andy !! I love buying bulbs but I absolutely hate planting them.... Thanks for the name - will have a google !! RF

I think that is a great idea and if people were encouraged to take pics then the following year it would be a case of "look - I planted those daffs/whatever"!! RF

Thanks LG.
lots more work starting this week. We have enough cash to repair about 30m2 of path. Some of the path areas have come loose or tree roots have lifted the slabs or some just puddle when it rains. These will hoprfully be repaired starting this week.
We've also got our pond contractor coming in to repair a couple of the waterfall pools which have developed cracks. This will enable us to get the waterfall up and running asap.

It is a riot of colour Andy, well done! I love the informality of the planting, it looks much more natural and harmonised than the 'park' planting that we have.

I think that is a great idea Andy and much easier for you - people can still do a POTM in that they right click the pic and insert using the icon... I agree that the uploading is a pain with Proboards - we have to pay to upload from our PC's. Now to have a look at the pics andy... RF

Wonderful pics as usual andy - I just hope that if your fears become reality whether you won't be hurt more by not being able to keep up the fantastic standard that your manager has now allowed you to develop and maintain... Love the Monarda..

Oh marvellous andy, thanks for sharing... I didn't realise that there was sooo much of the park that you can see from the road - I bet people choose the side of the bus where they can see the most.. What's the plant in pic 3- Euphorbia perhaps?? The Fatsia is enormous - wish I could get one to grow to that size! Did it flower this year as I cant see any signs... Love this pic... How hardy is it??
